Do you wait before hitting the Engine Start button?

This is just another way some of you demonstrate your anal retentiveness with this car, I'm guilty of that too, however I don't wait before pressing the start button: THINK about how you start any other car that has a twist-the-ignition-key to start. Do you turn the key to the detent before the starter solenoid engages and wait for your dash lights to do anything? I didn't think so. If you are like most people, you turn the key all the way and the engine starts. It's the same in the S. Absolutely no need to wait.

I do it in my CRXs, I always do it in my GS-R I have, and even the one I had before the current one, and I did it when I had an M3... I always wait until the CEL goes out. Why do you think manufacturers run the fuel pump for 2 seconds when you first turn the key on?? To provide for easier starts when the engine is cold, to raise the fuel pressure at the fuel rail for the injectors to spray the proper amount of fuel for startup.

It is not a matter of being anal-retentive. It is a matter of letting the main relay do its purpose and run the fuel pump for 2 seconds to bring up the rail pressure.

not that it matters but if the time delay were necessary then there would be another relay or disconnect that wouldn't allow you to start the car until after the fuel pump has gone through the self priming stage.

What Clift said. It doesn't matter. If it did, there would be an electronic delay built into the ignition sequence. It doesn't take two seconds to build up the rail pressure for the fuel injectors, it's nearly instantaneous. I've tried waiting, and I've tried not waiting, the engine ignites at the same time either way, it just makes some people "feel good" to wait because they think they're helping. The misinformation that gets passed around here sometimes boggles the mind.

I always wait because on my motorcycle it does the same type of thing, but you hear the fuel pump being pressurized. I just figure it can't hurt to wait!

I have to correct myself, The air pump fires up only when the coolant temp is between 32-158F after the engine is started.
