just cuz it happens to be a convertible i think
I agree with the convertible factor. And the red/black interior catches some extra attention too.

From time to time, I have strangers asking me whether this car is super fast and is expensive. I usually say it's not really fast, but it's okay. And I say it's cheaper than a BMW (which of course ... isn't the best statement ... since there are a so many models in the BMW line-up).

However, there was one time when some guy just came up to me and said, "WOW! Is this the S2000? I heard it has 350 horsepower! A small car like this with that much power must be like a rocket. I bet you this car is over 50K too right? I heard it's the most expensive Honda!" -- I guess that's not too far off, since RL and NSX are technically not Hondas ...

Unfortunately ... I don't want people to think that it's a expensive car though, especially when I'm driving in somewhat shady areas in town ...

I agree with alot of people when they say it looks/performs more that it costs. I get alot of people saying "That' A Honda?" I get alot of older adults (40+) looking at it in amazement. The kids all the way into there 20's don't really give it much thought, but then again, there are some sleepers and well hidden sick whips close to where I live and drive. To me I don't care that it's a Honda...It's got power, amazing handling, and the honda reliability. Can't go wrong with that

When the car first came out I read a lot about how it would out perform the other 40-50k cars but, the more plain look of the early model bumpers and headlights kept me from making the jump. The headlight reminded me of an economy car because of that big chunk of orange on the side marker like all the others as did the bumpers more plain shape and the exhaust tips. These are all styling ideas that you would find on a boxster or 50k car and they finally fixed.
My plan for my next car had been a 993 cabrio until I saw the 04- up styling. Now I wouldnt trade my car for a $34k 993.

The 06 looks and feels like a 50k car any day to me.

i think it depends on the color and if you bought it new or used, my car looks like it cost much more than 20k to me.
I live in BMW, mercedes, porsche ,etc central and when you see the expensive cars all day most of them start to look plain, and common, but it does make me think about how the hell so man people can afford such expensive cars.

My S is bone stock and I think it's worth about what Honda charges for it. Having said that, I think S2000s look damn good! Like many posters before me, the best kind of compliments come from people who don't know about cars. I was in Red Bank last summer and slowed down to a stop sign. Three kids (they couldn't be more than 6-7 years old) were playing near the sidewalk and one stood up and screamed "NICE CAR". I gave him a as I left. No burnouts though.

The car is more expensive than the sticker price, according to some reports. There was a story years ago that Honda actually built the car for more money than it sold it for.
