get the dog. if u dont, she will stop using your 'shifter' and find some other 'car' to play with.

learn to like the dog too because you need to know what to do when a dog is being whipped.

Look at classifies and craiglist for dogs. People give away puppies all the time because they just can't care for 3-6 dogs. Good chance your gf might want one of those. Even if she doesn't want another breed initially... take her to see the puppy first. Its hard to resist any kind of puppy.

Why do you have to spend your money on a dog for her????F--K that, spend the money on the hardtop....I could understand a big dog(I have a Rottie, and a Lab), but a yorkie......C'mon.....

I agree, get the dog. Hardtop is nice but probably can't make you as happy as she (GF) can.

If she has to spend your money to make her happy, then that is not the right woman.

I find the master/slave (errr dog) relationship is much stronger when the owner brainwashes and breaks the dog's will. This rules out shelters. Compassion is best spent with volunteer work or charity donations anyways....

900 dollars seems expensive but I am unfamiliar with Yorkz. Still, why not go all out and get a champion? If showing isn't her thing the same breeders often have puppies with a minor flaw that will keep them from dominating the ring. The best dogs IMHO are these so called rejects as long as the temperament is right. One possible solution is buying the hardtop and putting a down payment to be placed on the puppy list with a champion york breeder (at least 12/16 champs in pedigree). This offers the best of both worlds while allowing additional time to ensure lawyers won

Get a yorkie from the pound and tell her it's the $900 purebred.

I volunteer at a local animal protection society before (ie. pound) and there are lots of wonderful dogs in line to be exterminated. My own dog is a chow/sheperd mix that was going to be put down before he was taken to a foster home (the foster parent realize he is an excellent dog). My dog is not with me now because gf insist on not having a dog at home (for medical reasons, she is severely allergic), but my parents are more than happy with my dog living with them... Deke (my dog) is like entertainment on 4 legs.

So, first of all, it is silly to spend 900 bucks on a dog unless 900 bucks is pocket change for you. The price/breed of the dog bears no consequence on your relationship with the dog, and the only advantage I see is being able to tell your friends that your dog cost 900 bucks... which is vain almost to the extreme.

Pound (or rescue) dogs are just as loving as any from a breeder. And, while some problems may be minimal, pure breed dogs are usually LESS healthy due to inbreeding depression and negative selection (selection for looks over survivability).

If your gf insist on getting a pure bred just so she can have a show dog, I say you may want to think twice about your relationship... I mean, what's next, you know? Imagine what kind of gifts and jewelry she will demand from you.

Get a dog for the right reasons - a dog is your friend, not a cute toy, and definitely not something to show off with.
