The Dog or the top?

Any women that would ask me for something she would not buy herself will soon be replaced. Looks like you already have a bitch why do you need to buy another?
Personally, I would realistically look at your current living situation to see if a dog will not negatively affect your life. Do you live with your parents, in an apartment that accepts animals, or do you own you own place? Do you have a yard? Will that breed be ok if no one is home, or do you have someone it could play with during the day (another dog or people)? Can you afford the shots, trips to the vet when something comes up? Do you and your gf live together? If not is she taking the dog home or do you have to keep it? If the dog (and the characteristics of the breed) are a fit and the cost is not a problem (but it sounds like it is) make your decision based off that.
Like you said, what if she breaks up with you? Someone else asked her potential for you too. I was in a similar situation, the cost was not a problem, she paid for half for my b-day on a $850 dog. I wanted a dog, she wanted a dog, I have a house and yard along with a neighbor that has a dog my dog can play with. My situation was ok for having a dog, if it wasn't I would have to say no dog.
I tried as hard as I could could to find a young rescue dog but no puppies were available in the breed we wanted. I also did not want to spend that kind of money at first, it is a bit much for a pet I think. But now, close to a year later he is a great dog, loves riding with the top down and the gf is now my fiance.
Make sure it works for you and your lifestyle. You do not want to be miserable with a miserable dog, everything should be right first, a dog is still a resposibility. Here is mine riding top down in the S2000...

To the guy with the Keeshond... That is cool you found a young one

My wife and I love our doberman and cherrish having him around, especially since he has a personality beyond compare, but I would not spend my savings on a dog. He is pure bread but he came from a local breader and was the last of the litter so I got him for $150. My parents on the other hand paid $75 for thier mix from the humane society, and its one of the best natured dogs we've had plus it was house trained when we got it. So why don't you take your gf to the shelter one saturday, around here they take the dogs to petsmart, and look at the dogs for adoption. Usually half of them have some sort of house training, and are usually a milder temperment than a pure bread pup. You could also look in the paper you might find a dog that is the breed you want that is less than a pet store pup, or mabye one that someone is having to give up and is already trained. Either way paying out $900 of savings for a dog that could die or be taken if the relationship dissloves is sensless.
Another thing I got by getting a doberman is a great security system for my apartment and car. On saturdays when I run errands I usually take the dog with me so I don't have to put the top up everytime I go in somewhere. No one will even thing of reaching in to take anything with a 80lb doberman sitting in the passenger seat.
