Default Don't Over tighten.....

Well I made a stupid mistake while changing my diff oil, i overtightened the fill bolt, it was a stupid mistake just reminding everyone don't do what I did lol. Well it's going to be a pricy $940 to fix my mistake. bleh

why would it be a $940 mistake...seems like WAY to much. Even if you stripped the threads you should be able to retapp a larger hole and go with it.

This should impact the structural integrity of the diff.

The reason it was a mistake, because they could not retap the diff, because of the space that is availible, soo they'll have to replace the outer casing of the diff. That plus labor and the part is why it's $940.

Its the fill bolt NOT the drain bolt. You could probably almost get by just by stuffing the fill hole with tinfoil. J/K (sort of) but seriously, just remove the old bolt, retap and use a new bolt. Drain and refill your diff twice to remove any shavings.

BS It can be retap go somewhere else, by your own kit, do something but don't pay 900

You need the tool. Its threads the hole for you. all you do is turn it, mind you several times and you want to make sure that you don't get shavings inside the housing. I can't belive they actually are trying to sell you a new one.

Make sure you get the right size, better to find someone with experience so you don't make the situation worse.

Ok Nevermind I see where now....next question once I tap it again would i need to get a bigger bolt for the fill hole?
