Why doesn't it have enough power? People drift KA powered S13's and 14's all day long which have a good 100HP less than a stock s2000.
the S does not have an ideal powerband for MY style of drifting which is on roadways (ie i dont go 100%) - those guys with S13's have a better torque to weight ratio than the S because S13's are light and the KA makes the same amount of torque that an F20 makes, with a better powerband (for drifting). in addition, they drift on tracks (all-out) where as i do it on the street (not all-out because thats not safe on the street). so a high-torque/low-rpm car (such as a supra) would be my choice since everyone does 240s

Check out the mods done to the RSR drift car this will give you an idea... the S is made to handle not break loose on you... so you got to do quite a bit to upset the cars natural blanace. Good news it can be done, just not easy.
however those "twitchy 00-01 rearends" might help

The S2000 is the perfect anti-drift machine. Why can't we just accept that? There are millions of Mustangs and Camaros just waiting to get beat to hell, go use one of those. They are set up for drifting right out of the box.

6 month old kumho asx's and cold a$$ korean weather in my ap1 = driftu. I have to U turn to get into my usual parking spot and the S doesn't have the turning radius to make it all the way sooo . . . A little extra power puts it just about where I want to go These tires are sooo crapy in the cold that I have to watch it upshifting into second, even with no vtec it gets a little loose.

An important note with the buildup of the AEM drift car (if you ever want to get into competition that is) is that they swapped the s2000 electronic assisted steering rack for a regular power assisted rx7 (fd3s) steering rack. The reason is that the stock S rack does not have as tight of a steering angle from lock to lock (good for racing, bad for drifting) so you can not recover and control as deep of an angle.

Also keep in mind that stiffer suspension is not always better for drifting. While it may make it easier to break traction with power over, you want some body roll to help with transfering the weight off your rear wheels for a more fluid transition. Practice initiating a drift with either breaking (transfering weight to front wheels just as you turn in) or with a scandinavian flick (quick left before turning right) to swing the tail out.

Above all else practice somewhere safe first, and always have room for a margin of error.
