What a tree can do at, I would guess, 45 to 50mph. (Not my car and the driver never stated a specific speed, just that he turned onto a highway access road and was accelerating like normal towards the onramp. A witness stated that the cause of the accident was another car clipped his bumper.)

In the video it says speed was a factor and the thread confirms this. The estimate was 80mph, the friends (sister?) say it was 70. Either way definitely more than 40-50 mph.

70-80 seems right to me, looking at the damage.

Good work BD89. Reading more fact is better at a time like this.

Nevertheless, prayers and deepest sympathies for the families.

Let's say I had a racehorse and I entered it into the Kentucky Derby ... but no, that didn't happen either.
Why are you instigating an argument when there are two kids dead here.

If we can get anything positive out of this whole tragedy, we should make other drivers aware, both young and old, of the fatal consequences that can occur while speeding on public roads. Other lives can be saved through the loss of these two. When I was younger, I had an accident that changed my way of driving. I was fortunate enough to come out alive, but not everyone shares this fortune.

By covering it up to make the surviving father look good, is not going to help anyone.

I'm glad you finally decided to join reality.

Instigating an argument? You're standing on your head. I'm not the one who started this "evil cops are covering up the truth" BS. That would have been ... oh yeah, YOU.

As for "joining reality", here's my first post in this topic:

That's ridiculous. Look at that car. You have to really be moving to tear up a car that badly, even if you hit trees (which are about the worst things you can hit in a car accident).

"Sgt. Larry Ritchie said that there was no evidence to suggest that Spires had been speeding but that the investigation is continuing."

Well...it was either BS code of blue OR it was incompetence.

I lend towards code of blue...otherwise the statement could have been simply "an investigation is underway"

Statements like "there is no alcohol in car, so absolutely no alcohol was involved"?

I bet there are MANY DUI convictions that wish they would have had the fortune to be pulled over by the quoted cop, rather than their original arresting officer.
