Drive by Wire? or Drive by Cable
I drove two different 06 S2Ks and I noticed a minor lag when compared to mine. One MY06 had a little less than the other. However my Ridgeline also has the DBW and I don't notice anything with it. Possibly because of the auto tranny.
Let me put it this way: anyone that knows a wrench from a hammer can be taught how to fix or adjust a throttle cable in a few minutes with 10$ in tools, at most. Also, rarely do you need to replace anything. When your DBW starts acting up, even if it is when you car is already 10 years old, I'd like to see you fix it, muchless get it to the dealer to begin with.
I'm going to say electronics are not more reliable than 'mechanics', whatever that means, in cases such as these. Of course in many applications electronics are better, hence their invention to begin with. But the more you complicate the car, the more that can and will go wrong. ABS and other functions have improved cars drastically, but with them an additional element of complexities. In the ABS case, I'd rather have ABS and deal with it if something ever went wrong. In the case of DBW, I'd rather just have DB a cable and my foot.
Ever wonder why higher end mercedes benz cost several thousand dollars a year to maintain after they get a couple years old? I've had a early 90's s600 sedan, and the electronics and sensors gave me problems non-stop. This is the standard, not the exception. The engine and transmission gave me little trouble, comparitively. This is a different case because the engine was not replaced with an electronic one, per say, but I'm not a fan to making cars have any more, IMO, wasteful features that are just waiting to break, especially ones I cannot fix myself.

I'm not a big supporter of DBW either, but if the sensor goes bad in 10 years I doubt I'll really care that much.
MB electronics are likely going to be far less reliable that the Honda's.
IMO the DBW system on the S is the best I've driven, at least as good if not better than the E46 M3 6MT.

I know powerhouse amuse knows how to..but when I approached them about it...they weren't too keen on tuning US cars on 91 octane =(
I think the dwb on the 06 for everyday is fine...it's only when you blip the throttle ...then the lag is very noticeable vs 05.
the clutch delay valve is also quite annoying for fast shifts too so i'm gonna tkae that out soon

I too had a TSX and the lag is horrible in those cars. I've driven both an '05 and currently own a '06 and can't tell the difference between them. The throttle response is instant. It seems like you're having issues with yours and like someone mentioned above, you should take it in and get it checked out.

I had a TSX as well and I thought that car was horrible the delay was terrible when you tried to shift real quick nothing but throttle lag. I just picked up my 06 s2k last thursday and it feels very responsive no lag at all. Maybe what you are experiencing has something to do with the clutch delay valve. If you have not already done that mod give it a shot might solve your problem.

Undoubtedly Honda geared the TSX this way for a better 0-60 times (since only 1 shift is required), but drivability suffers. This is my biggest complaint about the TSX.
I always wondered why they don't call it 'digital throttle' rather than 'drive-by-wire'. 'Digital Throttle' both sounds cooler and is more accurate.
Cause it came from "fly-by-wire" so the industry simply modified it is my guess.
Anyways, the TSX lag is throttle lag, not gearing. I've driven 4 different TSXes and all were absolutely horrible with lag.
