Default Is driving a new S 1200 miles nonstop harmful to the engine???

Everyone,

I've located a new '03 S with 23 miles on it and the dealer is willing to give me a great deal on it. The problem is, its 1200 miles away. I don't have a problem taking some time off and flying down to pick it up, however, is driving a new S 1200 miles on the freeway over two days bad for the engine? I'm not going to VTECH until about 1000 miles. Thanks for the help!

Zeb

It should be no problem at all. Just vary your speed and RPM on the drive home. I would also switch back and forth between 5 and 6 gear on the highway every once in a while.

It shouldn't be any problem if you vary your speed and RPM and don't forget to CHECK YOUR OIL at every fill-up.

Why not get off the freeway and drive some back roads on the way home?

Might even be better for the engine to break it in that way, than to break it in over several weeks with lots of start-ups and shut-downs.

Aslong as it is run through different parts of the rpm band and not just set on cruise control at say 5500rpm then it should be fine. Ofcourse not going into vtec land either.

If possible try to extend the time it takes to get back 1200 miles if you can. A two or three day trip could let the engine run low and higher RPM's. Keep it out of VTEC and the car should be a great drive back home.
