Droping prices in Oct.?
When the '04's come out in oct. (if in fact that's when they come out) will the prices on MY00-01 and MY02-03 drop? And if you know how much do you think?
That's assuming you can still find one then. The honda dealership in Serramonte had 5 S2000's about 6 weeks ago.. They sold them out last month and didn't know when they would be getting more.
Of course...the sales guy could have been trying to make me want one. That is...until he saw me get into my S.

Used car prices do not drop "suddenly" when the new models come out in the fall. They actually drop pretty linearly throughout the year, about the same each month, because everybody knows that the new models are coming and when. Of course this is all things being equal, i.e. assuming that no economic factors influence the overall used car market.
Chances are slim that they'll be a change in value because the coming changes are not generational. If there was a generation change, the values could go either way. The values may increase on the '00 to 03's because they're high winding 9000 RPM cars. The 2004 is rumored to have a lower redline. Brad Edmonds says, and I quote... "According to prelininary reports, the Honda S2000 will get a larger, lower-revving engine next year, along with a softer suspension. Your opportunity to get one of the screaming 9000-rpm rockets may be gone in another couple of months." -Ken
I think the approach of winter will have a more dramatic effect than the release of a new upgraded model.
Prices of used S2000s have been in freefall in the last six months despite the summer season. Look at the classifieds section - very low mileage 2000s with $3k-$5k in add-ons are barely selling for $21k; 2001s and 2002s are going in the $23-$25k range. Many of the later year cars have barely over 10k miles on them. If the current trend continues, by next spring you can subtract $3-$4k from these prices.
Most cars suffer the steepest depreciation in their first five years so I suspect prices will bottom out in the next 18 months, probably stabilizing at around $15k. I think the new model will have a barely preceptible influence on the current deprecation trend.
