Yes, it'll stay above 6000rpm. It's all about clutch slip. Doesn't change the physics that the speed at 8200 rpm in 1st gear translates to 5352 rpm in 2nd.
Perhaps it's not a coincidence then that the Hondata redline of 8500rpm in 1st gear translates to 5548 rpm in 2nd, which is where they've set the VTEC engagement(5600). Not much clutch slip needed to make up those 52rpms...

Cheers,
Phil

If we(ap2's) drop out of vtec on our redlines shifts, then why is it that the AP1 isn't faster then the AP2?
WHAT!

Actually...if the ap2 could stay in VTEC without clutch slipping or tire spinning, it probably would be quicker than the ap1. But as it is...their 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times are about identical.

I'm right there with you. Just went out for a little lunch break spin, and the 1-2 shift stays above 6K with minimal clutch slippage. If I shift far enough toward the limiter it feels like it would stay in VTEC even with NO slippage.

2-3 and 3-4 stay WELL above 6K with NO slippage, NO problem.

BTW looks like the AP1 drops out of vtec for a couple hundred also I guess we can all just let calculators and computers do all the racing for us from now on.

Note...there is also a delay in the rev counter.

Staying in Vtec in a 2-3 and 3-4 shift is easy imo, but the 1-2 is the one that is difficult. If the engine is dropping out of Vtec on the 1-2, its barely out, so I'm not sure that it actually is effecting anything, but AP2s with CDVs slip a lot on the 1-2 WOT shift so the rpms are never dropping out of Vtec, even if during a normal shift the rpms would drop below 6k. Same goes for the 2-3 and 3-4....

Who knows - for the conspiracy theorists - maybe Honda put the CDV in to keep the car in Vtec?

As for the tach lagging behind the engine, that would mean it was lagging up to redline too, right? So we're all shifting earlier than need be?

Okay, so tonight I took my camera and recorded a 1-2 shift. Its quick and dirty, but I think it shows an AP2 staying above 6k on the shift. You can hear the effects of a CDV too.

The rpms dip to 6,400, maybe 6,300 on the 1-2 redline shift with my slipping clutch. If the clutch were to hook up immediately, I think it would be higher. Since the 1-2 is supposed to be the hardest, and you quickly reach illegal speeds by the time the 2-3 comes up, I just did a 1-2.

1-2 redline shift

Sorry for the quality, I was pinching the camera and steering wheel at the same time.
Something is wrong with your tach, it only goes to 8k

Just giving and AP2 grief, I like 9k in my AP1
