I agree with you. I first test drove a '00 model year that already had a K&N intake, so I had nothing to compare it to. As I merged up onto a highway ramp and stomped the throttle, the induction noise was awesome...then it crossed over at 6k and it was like a whole different engine...much like a turbocharger feels. I was hooked...drove home and told my wife I have to buy one of these cars! They truly are a masterful piece of engineering at a high point for Honda as a manufacturer. I only hope another sports car with so many things done right: great shifter, fantastic sounding engine, balanced chassis and great looks that are timeless with the top down.

You never forget the 1st test-drive.
My first test drive was in the car after I purchased it. Never drove an S before I actually bought it! It was 2 weeks after paperwork was done before I could fly to PHX and get my hands on it!

Never forgot it.

I went to the dealer without a check or any intention of buying. The salesman asks me "why don't you just drive it around and see if you like it?" I couldn't stop smiling after I came back and just signed the paperwork. haha

Something dealers didn't let buyers do the first few years when they were new.
I do, however, remember the first time I hit VTEC.
my first test drive had an invidia N1. I could never live with that volume as my own car but god that vtec was glorious

I drove a S2000 for the first time a few days ago. Two actually
I was over the moon i actually fit in one! I'm about 6'2 so i was afraid i could not fit in it.
First one was a NFR one, lowered on 18's, injen intake, unknown exhaust, first time driving a S2000 and it's been 3 years since is had my civic so not used to petrol any more so i took it slow and steady. Even with the 18's it drove pretty good. Didn't want to abuse it so like i said, took it easy.
After about 5 minutes the salesperson took the wheel and showed me "what it could do", that vtec was amazing. After that i took the wheel again and drove around the block again and explored the entire rev range few times. I think i've been grinning from ear to ear. That fist time hitting vtec is fantastic and what an amazing car!

The second one was a RHD Moonrock Prefacelift import. Looked decent and more important completely stock but the airbox lid was taken off.
That drove like a dream! Firm on the road but not to stiff and a great feel. No rattles and it was even possible to cruise steady at 50km/h in 5th! Didn't think that was possible in this high revving machine. This seller did know a lot more about these cars an gave me some great info.
He also didn't let me rev above 5k, he did show me vtec kicked in like it's suppose to once. It's all good, shows he doesn't abuse the cars he's selling.

All in all great day and fell in love a bit more with this car but i think i'll keep an eye out for a nice +06 S that's completely what i want, i have time to find the right one

the s2000 is one of the most amazing cars to drive despite the fast that the car is horribly slow and under powered. This car really becomes perfect with a turbo or supercharger.
