Drove it for the first time
What would you expect from a car like an S2000 that's 17 years old now?
When it first came to the market is was faster and better than most of the competition. BMW Z4 was slower other than the M version, cayman/boxster was about the same but cost about double?, miata cheaper but lesser quality and slower,...

Its a responsive car. It magnifies your every move. Its engaging. Its a drivers car.
Yet its still powerful and quick enough to impress at times. It has an edge here over other drivers cars like the Miata or BRZ.
It also amplifies its sense of speed, rather than mask it, like so many 'performance' cars do today. These enhances the drivers experience further.
These are the attributes that make this car so special, and keep so many of us committed to it.
Its not fast, or powerful. Not for a serious performance car. Not by today's standards. But that is not what this car is about.

I don't, however confuse it with a high end sports car that is fast in both.
I have no interest in a car that feels like driving a video game. Where its performance envelope is so high, and its feedback so low, that it just comes down to reaction time with how fast you can steer, and the sheet thrill of warp speed acceleration.
Sure a car like that would be fun, for a little while. But its not the thrill I am after. I want a more engaging experience. That is wha the S gives.

Obviously not fast when compared to today's sport-cars. But, it is def the fastest car I've ever owned and was also fast for its' year and time of release. My previous "sporty" cars were an EG w LS/B16head and an S13 SR redtop.
Think about it like this.. Some of neighbors have Mustang GT 4.6L cars from the late '90s and early '00s. I wiki'ed it, and their "muscle cars" with a whopping 4.6L of displacement only make around 240-270hp. Sure sounds fast for a flagship "GT" model *sarcasm*

Well i spose everything is relative. The car is fun, reliable, fun, slow, fun, sporty etc. Its fun. But it isnt a track monster no matter how much koolaide you drink.
Mine happens to be a track monster, as anyone who drives at the events with me can attest. But it took a lot of suspension and drivetrain and interior work to get there. My memory is good enough that i know how the car was when i first purchased tho. Slow. Sloppy. But still... Fun.
