This is my perspective. I'm 64. When I was in my late teens and twenties (more than 40 years ago) I owned an AH Sprite. Also, I drove many AH 3000's and MG Bs and As and Triumphs. I loved those cars. It was not about raw speed and torque for me even back then. For example, my Dad had a GTO convertible with a big V8 and all the torque you could ever want. But, I far preferred the experience of driving the little AH Sprite I had. In my mid twenties that sprite got hit from the rear and that was the end of it. It was the end of my sports car experiences as well.

I recall when the s2000 came out seeing it around and I definitely recall noticing the car. I have always loved the looks of the car. I knew nothing about it because I was not in sports car mode at the time. I figured it was outrageously expensive and probably not nearly the raw fun of the old AH and MG cars. It did not matter though because whatever it was I knew I could not have it so I just went about my life driving camry's and pick up trucks and such.

Fast forward to the summer of 2016. Finally after raising my family and doing the right things in that regard for 40 years I found myself thinking about sports cars again. My financial circumstances were such that I could seriously consider owning a summer car. So, I started looking around. At first I was looking at old good condition MGs and AHs. But, I am still working and I have little time for working on a car now, (which in the past I have done a great deal of - including engine rebuilds and the like), So, my mind turned to modern cars and I looked about the usual suspects we all know. I remembered that there was a Honda car that I liked the looks of, (always reminded me a bit of the AH 3000 and the MGA). Much to my surprise as I looked around I realized that the car had been discontinued but that there were many out there on the used market. I still had no idea about the performance of the car or what VTEC was all about. Anyway, I ended up test driving a few and I was blown away by the performance of the car. I absolutely fell in love with it immediately. For me, coming from my background and given my intended use (spirited drives on back roads and weekend get aways) there is no doubt in my mind at all that it is the perfect car. Its like the old MG only when compared to that it actually has some power - plenty of power actually.

My friend Ann owned a red '69 Spitfire for many years. Only drove it on weekends, etc. She was the last person you would expect to own a sports car.

Couple years ago she had to quickly move to Arkansas to take care of her aging parents, who suddenly became ill. She asked me to sell the car for her, which I did. I got to drive it around for a while too, test drives, showing it off with FS sign, etc. Never knew how much I would enjoy a small convertible. So I reconsidered the S2000, and ended up buying one.

Fast forward a year, and Ann comes back to visit. So I give her the S to drive around for the week. She freaks out. Says its like a modern version of her old car. All the fun, none of the nightmare (Lucas, etc), plus crazy performance.

I've let several people drive my car, but few of them would venture into vtec, even when heavily prodded to do so. None redlined it. Except for Ann. She had no hesitation to drive it like she stole it. She had so much fun! I guess I'm sort of telling her first time I drove it story.

I know how much she misses her old Spitfire. If I won the lottery, one of the many things I would do for someone else is buy her a red S2000...

Unless I hammer it an get the RPMs up to VTEC, I find myself getting smoked off the line by minivans and SUVs all day long. But I guarantee I'm having a lot more fun than they are.

Speed is relative. I've recently owned an Audi RS-4 and a BMW 335i, both of which had significantly more torque than the S2000. But always remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

I remember the day I first drove mine. It seems like it was just yesterday. Actually it was only about 2 years ago. lol.

Went to the dealer that was selling it and went for a test drive. While cruising down the street, there was a lot of rattling noise and right there I was just turned off. Then as I got up to speed and took some turns on the streets, I instantly loved the car and I had to have it. The rattling didn't sound like it was any where from the suspension or any where serious. It was more from the interior. I figured it was just some loose pieces in the interior which I told myself I could probably fix so I signed the papers and drove it home with a big smile on my face.

Oh and I fixed the rattle noise that night. Loose spare tire.

i didnt think much of it during my first drive and the drive back home from alabama to GA...i even thought that this shit is not that much faster than my highly modified accord of that time...

but i think after getting my fluids changed, full tuneup done, and really learning how to drive it, i saw the the hype...

its not torqy..sure...but why am i not dropping it into 4th or even 5th to pass or overtake cars on the highway?? seems to do it with ease....and during WOT, it seems to skip from 60's mph range right into 80s...bad ass!! also, electronic power steering like wut?

I've only had my S2000 for a few weeks myself. I've always wanted this car.

I had a 98 Honda Prelude back in my high school days. I loved that car and even though my buddies generally got the best of me at autocross and track days with their Integra Type R's (seriously 4 of my friends had them..). I didn't have many mods on it. Lowered a bit. Apexi'i N1 exhaust, RSX type S seats and an intake. Drove it hard and fast all the time and it never let me down. Took it up to 150MPH outside of my home town of Fort Worth Texas. Still the highest speed I've ever gone in a car.

Life caught up with me and I sold the Prelude. Was heartbreaking but I got stuck living in Utah and wanted to move back to Texas. Me and my dad rebuilt an Eclipse GSX from practically nothing and I drove that pile of shit for a while. Engine and tranny were in the trunk when I bought it. Block was cracked. Faded paint. Could never get the boost to stay stable. Had a turbo blow up. Transmission was sloppy. Made custom intercooler piping out of necessity with PVC for it when my new turbo compressor didn't match my stock piping. I hated that car. BOO DSM.

Drove shit cars for a long while after I sold the Eclipse.

Fast forward 6-8 years. I finally make good money. I've talked about wanting one with my friends for years. Regaling my Prelude's Autocross and road racing days. I'd decided years ago that once I could afford to. I'm buying an S2k and racing again.

With my last raise I asked my buddy to start looking for an S2000. My buddy owns a dealership with his dad. He started poking around for a decently priced S2k. He was out playing Pokemon Go and spotted an S2k sitting in another dealers lot. He asked about it. Someone had traded it in and they hadn't even put it up for sale yet. He bought it from them directly and told me to come in and look at it. When I got there and saw the excellent condition I suddenly got super stoked. First question I asked him was how many miles. He says 165k. I laughed at him as I knew he had to be lying. After prodding him a bit I finally just turned the key on the car and looked. It in no way looks like it has this many miles. Some minor paint flaws. Headlights are a touch faded. Wheels have very minor curbing. Overall better than I was expecting for my price range though. We compression tested the engine. Looks good. Only real problem was the AC didn't work. Didn't care taking that out anyway.

When I first got in the S2000 felt just like home. Reminded me a lot of my prelude in some ways. Seating position. The steering wheel. God does it scream so much better than the H22. Hitting VTEC again for the first time in almost a decade put a massive smile on my face. Feels so planted. Turns so much more freely than the prelude ever did. I ran it through the gears and bought it right then and there. This car is everything I had anticipated it to be. Didn't think I'd like having the convertible down but it is actually very enjoyable. I'm so excited to get back to the track next month!
