I know if I am going to buy a car, I am going to drive it. When I bought my S I told the seller how I was going to drive, and he chuckled, then I put him in his seat. I did not get too crazy and did not do anything to hurt or endanger anything or anyone, but I am sure he was a little uneasy a few times during the test drive.
Thats fine and dandy but the OP didn't inform or ASK the owner if he could take his/her car for a joyride.

TO the OP:

for getting to drive an S.

BIG for disrespecting someone else's property.

To put it in another perspective...how bout I "inspect" your girlfriend? I'll take her for a little ride and let you know how it goes.

Wouldn't be cool would it?

I dont know why everybody is bashing the poor guy for allegedly beating the hell out of the car when all he said was that he drove it. He didnt say anything about redlining it or anything... just that he drove it. For all we know the guy drives like my grandmother. Tough crowd in here tonight.

Planets has it right...since obviously you cant possibly enjoy and like the S without ragging on it wherever you go

Even if he did take it to redline...just about anyone here will get on a soapbox about how the car was made for it, and can do it all day long with no harm done. Though I would hope the OP is intelligent enough to know and accept the consequences of irresponsible actions with other people's property. I'm also sure he would prefer the same thing not happen to him if he became an owner.

I am not sure why people are freaking about how the dealer "allowed" it. I'm pretty sure whatever he did while in the car was not under the watchful eye of the GM. And you cant expect the GM to play fetch on every car needing transport somewhere.

I took an S at a dealer to redline a few times when I testdrove it. The salesman fully endorsed my attempts. I didnt buy it. That car is now ruined for whomever bought it after me (who I might add, I have talked to a few times here in town). God forbid.

Oh please, with all the excitement I highly doubt he drove it nicely.

Regardless, its not the fact that it was brought to redline rather the PRINCIPLE that it was. That car (assuming) is someone elses property and should be handled with care not tossed around and disrespected.

Not to mention, there has been a few threads here of dealer techs going out without permission and subsequently crashing the s2000 because they never drove a twitchy RWD car. If the op came back with that story, all you defending him would be bashing just like everyone else.

Of course NONE of the posters above have EVER taken a test drive that involved anything not recommended by the owner's manual during break-in.
Actually thats not true. I test drove an 07 at Scott Robinson Honda. The car had 15 miles on it. I didn't VTEC once. The sales guy was telling me I could give it a kick in the @ss, but I told him I respected the car and didn't want to cause any damage to it.

This thread is just one of several examples of why myself and others are "bashing" the OP.

Dealer wrecks S

That statement right there is enough for me to pass judgment (if indeed this vehicle was in for service or pre-delivery prep). I honestly don't care if he didn't redline it even once. The point is that it can be inferred from his statement that he was joy riding in a vehicle that did not belong to him without the owners permission/knowledge and that is very wrong.

Call me harsh if you want, but when I am paying a dealer (or any service shop for that matter) hundreds or thousands of dollars for maintenance and/or repairs it in no way should include possible abuse by an employee.

For me my purchasing experience did not involve any type of test driving. I did'nt care to, neither . I was assured that the car I wanted was the S. The sales rep apologized but stated that the dealer stopped giving people tests drive due to the fact that everyone wanted to "dog" out the car.

For me as I have stated before, the history, the purpose of the build, and the fact that this car has always been destined for greatness, and to the halls of fame was sufficient for me.

I signed the dotted line, chose color, went home with the car, test driving it after the purchase re-affirming how right this purchase fealt.

i am going to print this thread out, and drop it off at Honda Headquarters tonight. The building is literally right behind my work in Torrance.

They need to find a way to keep tabs on their employees.
