Default a dumb thing to do with your s2k, and a (dumber) solution ?

so, i was at my mother's house yesterday, paying her a visit and fixing her computer. (lol)

i had brought a bunch of stuff, and whilst putting it back in the trunk, i managed to lock the keys in the trunk. since i had just had the car at wheelworks getting new rims put on, the glove compartment was locked.

so, keys in trunk, can't push button, extra set of keys is at my place in sf, an hour away.

i figured i could call a locksmith, get in her volvo and drive the round trip... or...

drill a tiny tiny hole in the top left corner of the recessed area of the glove box (where you put your fingers to open it) and push the trunk release button with a piece of piano wire.

it worked. got the hole on the first shot. can't even see it, now that i filled it with a gob of matte black paint.

so now i'm thinking, what if i hide a spare key in the trunk, and stick a piece of piano wire (only 3-4" long) under the seat... and if i ever do something stupid again (lose keys, lock keys in trunk, etc) i have an extra in a safe location.

and then i thought, jeez, you're retarded!

Hate to tell you this.... but there was an easier solution. You can actually just pull the door open... it doesn't break anything. I've tested this, works fine.... The locking compontens have enough flex in them to just bend open then pop back to their original shape...

better solution: have ur keys copied, dont worry about the immobolizer, put it in ur wallet.. it'll be flat enough to fit in your wallet.. just like ur house keys u know? and then if u ever lock urself out, just use that key

...or just make sure whenever the key isn't in the lock it's in your pocket, like I always do.

After rescuing my son from keys locked in the car one too many times, I presented him with a magnetic key box and a spare key which we hid underneath the car on the frame. If you're really that absentminded, keep a spare key hidden somewhere.
