Dynamat
Hey guys, looking to use some dynamat on my car to try and reduce some of the noise from my exhaust. If I were to use this... what would be the first place to start...? I would search but the search is down, how noticable will this be? From 3-4k my exhaust drones and leaves a ringing in my ear... Real hard to have a conversation
I meant wheres the first place I should apply the dynamat too. Like where does most of the noise get through? Should I start with the trunk? Doors? Area behind the drivers seat? etc...
Looks like quite a job, would it be worth it to just do the trunk? I rather not remove the entire carpet again
I assume thats your s2k in the installation pics? How did it sound?

If you want to keep noise out, do not use dynamat. It is not what dynamat is used for. Its a huge mistake many people make using dynamat to shut something up. Dynamat is used to reduce vibration, NOT to restrict sound travel. If you want to silence the exhaust and tire roar, you need the foam from the site I posted. However, it's not cheap.

Ah gotcha, will it have a noticable effect if I just do the trunk with that? At that price im not sure if I could be able to afford the doing the whole car, just looking to quiet things down, not have a completely quiet car...

I don't have it, as my car is impossible to quiet down (fuel pump, system, amp fans, turbo, etc etc....plus I love the noise) but....
If you want a very high decrease in noise, coating your trunk and fuel/spare tire area in that foam will make a noticeable difference in road tire roar noise, as well as the exhaust. If you do the undercarpet area, your car will be pretty damn quiet. To do the trunk, main cabin, and dynamatting the doors will cost you about $200 (assuming you are going to do the labor yourself.)

Here is a great thread on quieting the s2k:

Also...you might want to consider something other than just regular dynamat living in Florida. Take a look at the following comparison showing the effects of heat on sound deadeners:

I got excellent result using SecondSkin Damplifier Pro to reduce vibration in the doors and above that used SecondSkin Overkill product as sound deadener, so I would recommend using Overkill to insulate noise, if you use two layers of it - it's gonna be very very noticeable improvement.
To reduce noise from exhaust try to cover trunk as well as central tranny corridor, usually these are the most effective places.
