It's my understanding that Ferrari does exactly what Porsche does, and AMG Mercedes. They "break in" each individual engine on a dyno prior to installation. Also they test drive each car before it leaves the factory. You will even find this bragged about in the Porsche brochures. I have several friends who have bought new Ferrari's over the years and they have been told no break in period is needed as this is already done at the factory. Same story I was told when I took delivery of my 911. Dealer and owners manual said to go ahead and rip it to redline, no break in needed.

I have always firmly believed in proper break-in. It is always better to apply more power progressively to somthing instead of flooring it from the factory.

My previous car was a 1998 Prelude SH. I took care during break-in,

No constant speeds
no WOT
no speeds over 4500 RPM ...

A friend of mine got the same car and kicked his from the first day.

We would do "rolling-start" accelleration tests and my car would out accellerate his every sigle time.

I noticed the same thing with my s2k when i was running against others, i am not talking about driver skill here. Pure acceleration in a any gear is a good test.

Some of this might be because i have a better engine from the factory, but not all.

I believe in properly breaking-in an engine, untill 600 Miles from then on untill 1350 miles you slowly go higher and higher in the rev range even with the occasional full throttle. From there on i drive my cars hard with daily trips into redline. Once it is broken in, there is no use in babying it.

My experience, has shown me to trust this method.
