No, that's not over-reving. You can only over-rev by missing a shift and shifting to the lower gear instead of the higher gear that you'd choose while accelerating. For example, say you are in second at redline and you accidentally shift to first instead of third. That would cause over-rev. The rev limiter will stop the engine from over-reving under acceleration. I do this all the time while auto-xing. It does not hurt the engine.

That's what I thought too. But with only 7x,xxx km and stock internals running NA, why would it blow up like that?

seems like a valve retaining keeper failed and dropped a valve into cyl #2 where it got crushed up.
