I've got an 02 with 11000 miles on it, and I have a ticking or tapping noise that seems to be coming from the engine, right behind the center of the dash. I mainly hear it around 4500-5000 rpm. Anyone else ever have this? I check the oil at every fill up, and have never let it drop very low. I thought it might be in relation to the recall (54 I believe?) but it was supposed to be fixed for the 02s. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

 

Do a search for #4 cylinder failures. I don't mean to alarm you, but you have a symptom that, in the past, has indicated piston skirt scuffing in the #4 cylinder.

Just looking at it quickly, that is some scarry stuff I am going to try to have it looked at this Friday. I was thinking of printing out some of those posts to take with me... do you think that is a good idea? Is there anything else you would recommend?

 

have your valves adjusted.

 

i assume that you are running premium fuel... if not, that could also cause knocking.
