Default the evolution of the s2k good or bad?

Just read a post on "tell honda" and the subject was about why the 2004 s2k is now kind of catered to the mass majority with the 04 model and the car might be losing its novelty approach with the more torque for easair driving, oval tips, more decorated interior etc. Very interesting writeup.

So what do you guys think of the evolution of the s2k? Should it be stopped? Should #s be lowered? Go back to basics?

A true example from that post is how some s2k owners are now getitng 04s because it is more comfortable and easiar to drive.
I got my 00 from an older lady who bought an 04 and she said it felt the same speedwise but was more comfy, easiar to drive user freindly etc etc.
Isn't the s2k supposed to a hardcore road warrior?

That would suck if the s2k was massed liek the 350z but it wont be the end of the world. I do like my minimalist interior though with the black carpet in the middle looks cool Simple design.

In the end I don't care I guess but I'd love the car to have a rarity, this car still makes me love driving everytime I get in it espeicially with the resonator mod and 9k rpms

I would like Honda to take the approch that Porsche did with the 911.That is to evolve the car, more power, more high tech maybe a track-centric model like the 911 GT3;perhaps a more liberal usage of aluminum. But stay the course on the basic design and layout and style.

BUT NO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS !!!!!!!!!!

You do have a rarity, a "real," pre-04 s2000 with a 9000 rpm redline. They're not making 'em like they used to. The number of 9k cars is actually going down now due to accidents, making yours rarer each year.

no disrespect to the '04 owners, but they are a different breed of the car.

Honda's just doing smart marketing.

The 04 model was bastardized and americanized to sell more cars & attract more attention. Give it more room, altezza-like taillights, a "bigger" motor, and a softer ride, for 80% of the buyers, whats not to love ?

Exactly. Honda is just trying to make a buck as with any company... They "softened" the s2000 in 04 to make it more user friendly and comfortable, so people who wanted a smoother ride would buy it, they gave it a "bigger" engine for the damn common american who thinks "bigger is better" It still looks good, it still performs good, i wish the #'s would stay low because it would be nice to have something more rare, but it is still a blast to drive, its my daily driver and every day i still think to myself wow, 19 and i already own my dream car.... I love the s2000 no matter what they do to it in the future...

(btw: id never give up my 02 for a new and "improved" 04)

That makes me . Gave it more room did they? Well, technically that is an accurate statement but increasing shoulder room by 1/2" is not too earth shaking.

The harder core early models are not for everyone and they are already unique in the USA of course, since they still make the 9k car for the rest of the world. Many of things that people faulted were the same things that appealed to a few of us. I've probably played my radio a total of 25 times in 3 years. I never use the clock. But I do love the high rev'n 9000 engine and the suspension that keeps you alert.

My brother has a MY02 which he bought new and I used to drive every so often. I always thought that as a a pure sports car it was hard to beat. However I also thought that it didn't represent it's 30K+ price tag but that was a small price to pay if you wanted a hard core sports car. When MY04 arrived and I took a test drive i said SHIT, it feels like a whole differnt car. It felt faster, torquier (DUH!) and roomier, plus interior craftmanship looks way up. I instantly bought one. People fuss about 9k vs 8K redline but i say its all bull because its all relative. A MY04 will as a matter of fact sweep between vtec activation and its 8k redline in about the same time a MY00-03 does vtec and its 9k redline, so basically they're evenly matched in that department moreover when MY04 gears have been tweaked to suit its 8k redline. To me (and this is purely my opinion) I see no advantage in having a 9k (with the arrival of MY04) besides the novelty or sicological factor. Also no stock MY00-03 has been able to own me in a race and that includes my brother. The couple of times i have switched cars with my bro and raced, he has always owned me so its not the driver. Just my 2 cents.

so oval tips, a extra cup holder, and some fake aluminum looking plastic on the inside gives it, its extra value? what a joke
Elizer, I was just expressing my personal opinion as I (as wll as you) am entiteled to. I also OWN a 1993 RX-7 touring montego blue (as my sig. testifies to my rotary roots). As an ownwr of a very modified RX-7 i would'nt have bought an s2000 if I had'nt thought and known to it to be an outstounding sports car.

By the way, during 3rd gen RX-7's run there were no substantial changes up until 1999, and this were similar to the ones suffered by the S2000 in '04. Yes it came with 25 more horses but no increase in displacement, so its basicaly the same.
