There is a good amount of people id like to slap upside the head in this thread. Some people have to get off the whole "defend my year" horse.

Hey GUESS WHAT, my 04 dynod at 220 to the wheels stock, at a humid and hot as hell miami day. What does this mean... Jack.

Hey Ive beaten numerous stock pre 04s on the auto cross... What does it mean ... JAAAAACK

you know whats the only phrase that truely makes sense. "The grass is always greener.."

I Like 9k, i drove it and its fun. Revs for ever... Does 9k worth of revs mean ure gonna beat me in a race.... NOPE. Does the pre04's stiffer suspension mean your gonna beat me at the autocross...Nooooooooooope. Nothing is certain..

I get ragged on by the SOFL folks all the time for having an 04, do i take it to heart. NOOOPE. Why? Cause we all have the same car...capable of the same times in any type of race... We know this..

Year used to make a diff on what interior combo you had, or if u had a big or small rear window.

Im gonna take the S2000 off my car, and change it with an s2004.... Since its apparantly a diff car to some of u ...
stick to the thread topic please
thanks

The 2000 in S2000 stands for displacement in liters, not year. So yeah you should be saying "S2200" not "S2004". I'm not trying to add the a flame war, I think both cars are great. My friend just bought a 2004 and I really like it, just not better than my 01. (and by the way I smoked him in autox, it's more about drivers not cars ).

Well, I was going to post a comment like, "Yeah, it is a different breed of car alright.
We've got different flavors for different preferences, but the differences are relatively minor. Certainly not a different "breed" by any means . The various MY are really all the same basic car folks. Viva the S!!

You misquoted me, I said "the" car, not just car. In your terminology I meant "flavor."

My point had nothing to do with better or worse MY. SilverKnight said he wanted a rarity, and my point was that they stopped making US 9k cars. So SilverKnight (& all other 9K owners) are members in a club whose numbers will only go down as cars are taken off the road. They own one of the 20,000 (or so) US, 9k, S2ks.

That's all, not better or worse, just not the 9k car anymore.

Would I rather have a '04 than my '00? Probably. Are the differences enough to justify the financial hit of trading in a '00 with 25k miles for a '04? For me personally, definitely not.

Let's face it, the "pure, purpose-built sports car" argument is specious at best: cruise control, power top, power windows, power door locks, etc. They tacked those things on to the car in the first place because they thought us lazy Americans wouldn't buy the car without these kind of soft, cushy features.

Well, I didn't misquote you since I copied and pasted directly from your post . But if you meant that I misunderstood what you were trying to say, then that may be possible. Either way, my point was just that using the term "breed" is a little excessive since they are still essentially the same car.

Funny, but every article I have read concerning the 04 improvements was full of praise. (And I read a ton of them before buying mine) Only pre-04 owners disparage the 04s.

Couple of article samples i found on the net for those inclined to read 'em:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?se...article_id=7579
http://automobilemag.com/reviews/0311_s2000/
http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0403_three/
http://www.roadandtrack.com/default.asp?se...000&agYear=2004
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2004/honda/s200...ontent...Honda*

If you take the time to read these articles, you will notice that much more than the 9k redline was changed and that Honda has made the 04 S an even better car than it was before in just about every respect. Envy is an ugly thing aint'it.

I don't see how any of the changes wouldn't be considered "good." The only thing that might be considered worse is the 8k redline. But if its making the same/more power at 8k then the pre-04's are at 9k, then why not? Its a little silly to me sometimes to have to rev to 9k just to get the car to move. I admit, its fun as hell and the scream is great, but 9k redline is more of a novelty feature.

Honda's just doing smart marketing.

The 04 model was bastardized and americanized to sell more cars & attract more attention. Give it more room, altezza-like taillights, a "bigger" motor, and a softer ride, for 80% of the buyers, whats not to love ?
I would agree with this if the US was the only country that got all of the changes. The car was evolved and everyone got the new version. The only exception is the motor. Isn't there some tax in other countries that manufacturers much absorb if the engine is over 2000cc? Maybe that's why the other countries didn't get the 2.2L.

In any case, i'm glad for the changes. I wanted an 02 S2000 back in 01, but got a WRX instead. When I saw the changes on the 04 S2000 I HAD to have it. Traded in the WRX and got my car finally.

Which brings me back to a lightweight version of the MY05 with maybe 250-300 less pounds by subtracting those above mentioned amenities and a more liberal use of aluminum.

Honda also needs to back the S2000 with maybe some sort of S2000 road racing series simular to the Porsche Cup.
That would be to the benefit of all, owners with track proven factory engineered mods that work and generate interest to non-owners to take a closer look at the S2000 as a purchase that is fun and affordable
