Default Extended Warranty Cancellation?

Hey all,

After reading all of the posts regarding prices on these extended warranties, I really feel shafted. I wish I would have read all the post on this subject prior to signing on the dotted line.

Anyway, here's the details. I paid $1980 for 7yrs/75K extended warranty. In comparison with a lot of the posted prices this is really way too much. I seem to remember someone paying $450 for 7yrs/75K.

Has anyone cancelled their extended warranty contract? Apparently, anyone can back out of the contract and receive a refund. The only stipulation that I see is -- "All cancellation refunds after 60 days from the effective date are subject to a $25 processing fee."

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks.

I've cancelled extended warranties before and haven't had any problems doing so. You may have to pay that processing fee, but it seems to make more sense to do that then to pay that high price. Maybe you can renegotiate the price with whomever you bought it from so you don't have to cancel the warranty all together.

Here's the update:

I called the dealer where I bought the extended warranty. I stated that on this board S2K owners have paid for 7yr/100K mile warranty in the range of $450-$1000. So, I would like to cancel my warranty. Their come back is -- provide me with a phone number of a dealer that offers such "ridiculous" price and we will match it.

HELP!!!

Anyone out there who can provide me with dealer numbers and maybe names who you negotiated this deal with??? Specifics of the warranty such as pricing as well would help. Thanks.

Try plugging your car info here and see what you get. The quote will be based on your area and your current mileage.

The warranty provided by Honda is a very different animal from aftermarket warranties. They cannot be compared in terms of price because the coverage can be dramatically different. Many aftermarket warranties are not even close to bumper-to-bumper and can have pages of exclusions. Some also have deductibles.

Some not-so-ethical dealers will sell these much cheaper aftermarket ones without making it clear that they are not the same as the factory ones.

$1980 for a 7/75 warranty is completely outrageous though. Dealer cost on this is probably less than half that.
