extended warranty yes or no?
I normally do not by this type of insurance but after a month with the car it seemed to me to have a bit more risk than others I have owned. I negotiated at 7/70K/0 warranty for $800 US.
I have always questioned the wisdom until my diff blew and HondaCare covered it. The dealership showed a $4500 repair and I paid nothing.
These types of policys are a gamble but sometimes you can come out on the winning side.

A local member had his warranty denyed because he had an aftermarket exhaust and a CF hood. The Hondacare rep literly walked into the dealership, GLANCED at the car, and denied the claim on spec.
His Hondacare claim for a TRANSMISSION, was denied on sight, because of his CAI.
A 3rd party "warranty" does not have to prove the mod directly contributed to the problem being claimed like new car warranties do...
xvpier and others are correct - ANY mod will void a hondacare warranty.

It would be rediculous to think that a stereo system would affect, for example, the operation and health of your engine or transmission, but by the letter of some extended warranty, "ANY" modification to ANY part of the car can void this thing.

The contract specifies the following is not covered:
"Any repair if a non-authorized part or accessory caused or contributed to the mechanical breakdown (eg. aftermarket performance parts, ... , non-factory or non-dealer installed stereo equipment..., etc)."
I take that to mean that if I installed a new head-unit in my car and had ANY electrical problems later on, they would most likely deny my claim. Which means I will either wait 5 years to upgrade the stereo or void the contract and get my money back.

Also, you got a lot more time for less money. The origonal poster asked about 5 years for $1100 (which is really only 2 years b/c the first 3 years are covered).
Also to the poster who saved $800 on the bearings, that still hasn't covered the cost of the warranty.

ps. It almost sounds like you want this real bad and want to believe that you really "need" this thing. You are trying to find ways that go against the advice already given here. I think you should go ahead and buy this thing. It'll always bug you if you don't.

It seems to have paid for itself several times over for you. But the S2000 is fairly trouble free (how many cars need a new dif? Probably just a few out of each hundred).

The S2000 has been the LEAST reliable car (of the thirty or so) I have owned. It has been in the shop at least a dozen times for many days although I will say that Honda paid for most of the repairs (except for one clutch that probably failed early due to dealer install issues). IMO this car with the high redline, temperamental transmission, undersized diff, and unproven mechanisms and materials is a prime candidate for an extended warranty.
The HondaCare contract is a negotable item just like the car.. I just happen to cut a good deal but many did as well or even better.
Another thing is that to make any claim valid you have to prove that you have done your due care and attention by following the recommended service schedules. Pretty hard to claim for a blown engine when the oil is low or hasn't been changed. Keep the paper work!
