F-Series and i-VTEC
Why does everyone want to turn the quest of KNOWLEDGE about 2 engines into a fight about what CAR is better?
Not bitching about the F20...just wanting to know if the K series design is a general improvement to the F (the K's prototype) and somewhat detuned (less agressive cams, etc.). Or if the F is still the superior design?

I am not trying to be argumentative and start drama. I understand all of your points. I understand that an S2K is an all-around better car than the RSX-S, and most other cars in its category. No dispute here. If I had any question about this I wouldn't be buying one.
All I am trying to say is that the S2K, aside from the NSX, is supposed to by Honda's flagship. It took over the "reigns" from the Prelude. To me that means the car is supposed to be far superior, in every aspect, from other cars made by Honda (again, NSX aside).
I am disappointed by the fact that, for about $1500 less, you can S/C a RSX-S and put down similar numbers to the S. All other mods aside, a S/C S2K should make more power than a S/C RSX-S, and that simply isn't the case.

Honestly.. the K is probably a better motor....
I'm not really complaining about the S2000 engine, but it seems to me that K-series engine could have made more hp stock, but Honda de-tuned it so as not to compete with S2000. The JDM Integra Type-R makes 220hp at the crank. I think if honda let it breathe better it could make 240hp. But then japanese buyers would have a tougher time deciding between the two...although very different cars, a lot of people just want to be "fast".
i can make a ford focus faster than an S2000 for less money. does that mean it's better than an S2000?
come on people.

I think I agree with afwfjustin here. You have to remember that the S (properly driven) is a whole second faster stock in a straight line. That is a big differance.
Yes you can mod the RSX-S (meaning the k20) to run that time without a huge amount of mods, but that is why it is called modding.
Like many others have said, the RSX (without forced induction) pretty much hits a wall at that point. It's harder to keep squeezing out more all-motor power.
So what you have now is the S2000 and a modded RSX-S hitting a wall at somewhere near each other.
I'd imagine the RSX-S all motor with the normal easy mods (nothing elaborate here like a 10k redline) with I/H/E/Hondata should hit about a stock s2000 time. Then if you squeeze a little more power out of it you might get into the lower 13's. You can do the same thing with the s2000. At that point they both just about hit a wall and can't go further without F/I.
So you can't really complain if RSX-S can be made to run similiar to the S2000 with lots of mods. I think the complaint would be that you can't make the s2000 much faster once the RSX-S reaches it. What you have to realize is the all-motoring tuning of a 4 cylinder is only going to go so far without forced induction (turbo, s/c, nitrious, etc).
I think low 13's out of either of the cars is pretty amazing for an n/a 2.0L 4 banger. If you really want more power after that your next mod (if staying all motor) should be 2 more cylinders (or 1 if you buy a volvo, lol).

I also bet if you put boltons on a RSX-S and then boltons on a S2000 it would be very close since the K20 gains so much from basic mods and the S2000 hardly gets anything.

correction. the K-series is a better motor for what it was designed for. The K-series would NOT be a better motor for the S2000.

Actually you want to look at trap speeds not ET's if you're comparing a fwd car to a rwd car. And actually boltons RSX-S have been driven to 102-103 trap speeds before, a stock S2000 will not break 100 very often. If you put slicks on the RSX-S and left the S2000 on street tires I guarantee you the RSX-S would dominate e.t and trapspeed over a stock s2000.

oh and put slicks on the RSX but leave street tires on the S2000. oh well why stop there? gee, let's hinder one car and give another an advantage and see who wins.
this thread is getting really stupid.

I didn't say it was better for the S.. but overall I think the K is a better motor.. and should be.
