The later models are also heavier though, so that could cause the difference too.

In this article, (Even though most of the information are false, such as the power of the engine and the naming AP1 AP2 reason)

AP1 F20C 2000-2003 1274Kg
AP1 F20C 2004+ 1271Kg
AP2 F22C 2004+ 1295Kg

It's the opposite, the new model with F20C is lighter

I'll search for a better reference.

IIRC the f20c1 gets a 13.6 - 13.7 1/4 et, and the f20c2 gets 14.1 - 14.2 1/4 et.
Personally ... I'm not sure whether those numbers are any good. Whether the tests were done on the same day, etc. Also, S2000's 1/4 miles times vary a lot (due to the fact that it's a bit trickier to launch).

Best Motoring videos (though not the best thing on earth) seemed to suggest the F20C2 and F22C engines run very similar times. They did a comparison back then in 2006 when Japan got the F22C engine. The two cars essentially only had different engines, because the steering ratio, suspension, etc (except for gearing?) were all the same.

On the other hand, AP2s are at least as fast as AP1s on the track ... at least based on threads that I've read here. So I'm not so sure whether the F20C1 really is faster.

How about gearing? I'm still wondering if this is where a big difference is. If they changed the synchros, why wouldn't they change the gears too? A tune would have helped, but I'm wondering if that's all there is to it. And were the cams redone for sure on the F20C2?

Will anyone post where the gearing lands you at redline or any specific RPM level for each gear on an F20C2? Then an AP1 owner and an F22 AP2 owner can post the same data and it will be known. I just suspect that since they upgraded the synchros, they'd go with the new gears, and that would make it faster.

(And if you post the data, please mention your tire sizes if they're not OEM, as that will change it slightly...)
There was a post on this board before, showing that Honda kept the gearing the same for 2004/2005 for the F20C2 as the F20C1's.

I don't have the exact numbers before, but I remember doing that exercise (i.e. using the top speed of each gear and plugging it into a gear ratio calculator), and saw that the F20C2 engines actually went with the regular AP1 gear ratios. Btw, I have stock tires and stock 17" AP2 V1 wheels. Personally I feel that the AP2 gear ratios would suit the F20C2 engines ... but Honda might have a reason to keeo the old ratios, rather than making one transmission for all the cars.

As for the kick-in, etc. I don't have the real technical data, but rumour has it that the change has more to due with MAP / ECU settings than anything else. I personally would like to know more about this too ...

also they tend to dyno a bit lower than Ap2's.

F20C1 vs F20C2.... Don't think we have a previous thread that provided full details yet.

was trying to search for a comparison thread.

i previously owned a ap2 f22c US spec.
and just bought a ap1 f20c JDM spec
and let me tell you something... the f22c HAS NOTHING on the f20

i would figure that the f22 had more top end, but i was proven wrong.
ive ran my f22c against, and i really would only get them on the launch, then they would be either beside me or a bit ahead betweem 2nd and 3rd, i would only pass them late 3rd going to 4th

was reading that the f20c JDM spec is hondas highest hp rated 2ltr
the k20 has more hp than the f22c us spec.

i was pleasantly surprised with the f20c
i also feel like the gears in the ap1 are a bit longer

That's because they are longer.
