Default Factory Tonneau Covers

The Honda factory Tonneau Covers are listed at around $795 brand new.

Quite an expensive item to replace.

Lots of folks sell theirs off for $50 or $60 and I'm wondering if people are actually aware of the value of this item and if they'd be selling them so cheaply if they were?

Maybe there's little demand for them so people are forced to pawn them off for $50.

I think it has to do with supply and demand. Because many S2000 owners see them as a hassle, they just choose to get rid of it. At the time of this posting, there are 3 on eBay. There is plenty of supply, but not a lot of demand and therefore, the going rate is a mere fraction of retail. Besides, who the hell would pay that much for that thing?

I owned a '00 and the tonneau cover was a pain in the butt getting on and off, and sometimes not fitting right in back....... Is this the same situation on all the subsequent years '01-'02-'03-'04-'05????? (or has honda gotten it right over time?)

Yes, fully understand. I thought however, given their replacement cost, they would be a good item to keep for when people sell their cars even if they don't use it during the course of ownership. Guess not

a true pain in the ass indeed. I have never put mine on cause I don't think they make it look much nicer, plus you want the ability to put the top up easily in case it starts to rain!

Actually, I'd bet when you sell the car no one will notice if it's missing or not. The cover is really an afterthought.

I guess we are 180 degrees apart on the tonneau. It takes me less than 3 minutes to put on and I feel it finishes out the area where the top folds down. It does protect the top from the sun and elements (important here in Texas) and yes I must agree that it is a pain if you should get caught in an unexpected rain shower.

Don't forget the seats are over $5000 to replace, but they go for ~$800.

I use mine when I plan on driving for a while with the top down. I use it to limit the amount of road dust and grime. Not easy to clean the inside of the top and back dash area. Like someone said, only takes three or four minutes. Just my opinion.

As a new and 1st time owner, I made sure the car I bought had one and did not drive away without it.
