Are you trying to sell yours? I've noticed you comment on this on a couple of threads now.

As some folks have pointed out, it's a matter of supply and demand (partially). Every new S2000 comes with one. The only reason someone would be looking to buy one is if they damaged theirs or they bought a used car and didn't get it with the car (my case).

I don't want one bad enough to shell out list for the part. I'd rather do without than pay that much. I suspect many people are in that same place.

And, as we all know, car parts over the counter are grossly overpriced. Look at the cost of the factory wheels. You can get aftermarket that are lighter for the same amount or less.

The Honda factory Tonneau Covers are listed at around $795 brand new.

Quite an expensive item to replace.

Are you aware that the factory stereo (year 2000) lists for $910.78, U.S. dollars? That often you can get it steeply discounted for around $600? But that people throw them away, or sell them off for $20 to $80?

The list price, especially Honda's list price, has no bearing whatsoever on actual value.

Hmmm, for a less-than-100%-ethical person faced with meeting an insurance deductible, you may have inspired an interesting idea...

But otherwise you would think a removable exterior accessory worth $795 would have a LOCK on it. I lock my bike and it is worth half that...

Toss another one or two comparitive OMG-I'm-Getting-Killed-Selling-At-This-Price items...

OEM Exhaust

OEM Wheels

Although wheels go at an "okay" price typically, the by no means go for what should be considered fair market value. And our OEM exhaust?...wow , folks practically give them away just to get them outta their garage. Perfectly good...expensive...quality...exhaust and they just kick 'em out the door for $50+

Personally, I think the car looks better without it on.

Now the stock exhaust is something that's probably much more important to keep around for when you're ready to sell the car. The car with the stock exhaust has a wider potential buying pool and you can always sell the aftermarket pipe standalone.

Well.. if people want to act irrationally and pay more than market price, then there's nothing anyone could do about it. And if you're targeting this post towards those that sold and rebought the cover.. then...... wait, I can't imagine such a person exists...

Why does my post have to be targeted at any persons in particular? It's really not targeted at anybody. I posted a general topic out of curiosity and because I don't believe that every body knows the actual replacement cost of some of the parts they are practically giving away. I'm not arguing that they shouldn't sell them cheap. I couldn't care less. And no, I don't want to sell mine.

Maybe I'm misconstruing the tone of your posts but I've noticed you do seem a little defensive about it.... though I can't imagine why.

The tonneau is a pain to put on. However, once you get the procedure down it's not too bad. I use it because it finishes the car with the top down and protects the mechanism and rear shelf area. The problem is that it is an overbuilt quality product. It's so stiff and that it is hard to manipulate but it does protect. I'm keeping mine.
