See part number above and call your local dealer. I looked the part up on Kia Parts

I agree and I can get a rear gear free from a 2wd version so that is why I am really interested in knowing if it is correct.
It isn't correct. As Stratocaster pointed out, the S2000 diff requires "reverse cut" gears which are typically found in front axles.

I'm not an engineer so I really can't explain this other than it's a harmonic noise. all gears spinning make some sort of noise whether the human ear can hear it or not. The 4.56 gear's harmonic noise becomes audible around 4000 engine RPM's other than that short band you can not hear the gear whine. Do a google search for harmonic gear whine and you'll see what I'm trying to say.
I bought my gears from Hardtopguy last year, and had him install it along with the Comptech diff. I do autocross/track day work as well as DD it.

At first, the gear whine was really bad, obnoxious. Then it got better after 100 miles, as Hardtopguy said it would. Then, after about 3k miles on it, the noise has all but disappeared. Honest! It's not as quiet as stock, as it's still there, but it's not nearly as intrusive as the first 3000miles. I can't explain it.

Other than that, I love my gears. I wish 6th was longer so it would cruise at a lower RPM, but to Hardtopguy & 4.56 gears.

I know for a fact that they are out there with them installed in 06s. They may not post to the board.

Also, what you are remember is not Yellow box installs. I know that thread of which you speak.
