Even Weathershield isn't waterproof. The cover needs to breathe. Still, it's what I use when I use a cover but we do get a good amount of rain and sun around here.

I have the WeatherTech HP cover. VERY happy with it! I don't have a garage so my S is outside all the time. If I haven't done a good wash,
I'll just use the California Duster to get any dust off of it before putting the cover on. If it is dirty, I'll use some QD before putting
it on as well. Haven't had any problems with the cover wearing the paint at all and the water beads up and rolls right off of it!

The WeatherTech's aren't cheap but I wasn't going to chance it with some cheapo cover and have it start dulling the paint where it touches the car.
I also have a WeatherTech HP and a California Duster and it's the only cover I've had that I have been happy with. It is the most weather-resistant, and even after becoming water-logged, it dries extremely fast. It's easy to wash in a home-size washing machine. Fit is perfect. Unlike other covers I've tried, it does not allow tree oils or saps to penetrate the cover, even in the rain. I've tried other covers that let tree oils seep right through onto the paint.

The only downside is that because it is thin, it provides very little impact protection for hail.
