I believe there's been quite a bit of patriotism in the US lately. People in military uniform get treated pretty well in public. Police officers are unlikely to hassle you for no reason if they appreciate that you have served our country.

I remember back in '76 I was walking through Manhattan in Army Khaki uniform. I was stopped by a total stranger and cussed up and down - just for what I represented. On the same day, I was asked to leave a bar as soon as I walked in because I was in uniform (the owners didn't want any trouble), and a con artist tried to rip me off.

Times have changed! (well, except for the con artists)

No doubt that a fair number of law enforcement officers have some military service in their background and so I am not surprised that you might get a little special treatment on a speeding ticket.

Unfotunately, I would be worried about some lunatic seeing those plates and targeting your car for vandalism (i.e., some anti-war anti-military person).

Thanks for the reminder. When the veteran plates came out, I was thinking that it might be a good idea to order a set. I forgot all about it, but I'm definitely going to do it when I get out of school.

I was an FMF Navy Corpsman. Oo-rah brothers!!!

PS- Wearing my stethoscope has gotten me out of a ticket at least 5 times in about 10 years. I don't leave home without it!

You think that's any more likely than having your car vandalized by a Chevy/Ford/Dodge bigot?

Also, Anti-War does not = anti-veteran! Find a vet with combat experience that isn't anti-war!

Whenever I'm hetting off from work and in my scrubs, the police leaves me alone, besides, I'm not doing anything illegal anyway. One time I got pulled over because I forgot to turn on my headlights at night. My friends have gotten tickets for the same thing before, but the officer let me go. All he asked was for my license, registration, and which hospital I worked at. The hospital where I work at also helps out the P.D. a lot so maybe that's why he let me off.

I get pulled over all the time in my F Red S2K. I've yet to receive a ticket. I guess the attention the car gets has a negative aspect to it - the police can't help but notice.

I qualify for veteran plates. I've never bothered with them in the past - something about it never felt right. I served four years in special forces in the early 90's during some pretty crazy combat, so I think I've earned any veteran special treatment, but didn't bother with the license plates. I ordered the plates - you have to prove your service - and put them on a month ago. Bingo, the attention has changed in tone. I've been pulled over twice by two different cops. Each time they saw the plates once they had pulled me over and didn't even bother to get out of the car. They just pull around and wave!

I'm obviously happy with the change. I was second guessing my purchase decision of the car due to the unwanted attention.

So, my recommendation is to pick them up if your state offers them, you qualify and you feel you're being picked on.
May you should wear a postal uniform instead.
