Thank you, Steve. You clearly got the point of my original post.

I autocross primarily to experience and learn the limits of my street cars, so I gain more of what I am after by sticking with the same tires I use on the street. When someone shows up with a serious SM2 car, and can drive it well, I obviously can't keep pace, but that only happens occasionally, when someone comes from another region. When it's just the locals, the S02's are enough to win SM2 fairly consistently.

Even though I never got in a full run without making several mistakes (I was somewhat off my game, for a number of reasons) I was still only about 3 seconds slower than TOD (which as always was taken by "Thunder," an all out supercharged autocross Miata that is fast as stink).

But really, the times and the trophies don't matter to me. It was a course that challenged me (lol, and everyone else); I did well, but could have done a lot better, and I've got some clear goals for the next outing. To me, that's the real payoff.

I'm considering Pilot Sport Cups and a Gendron FSB for *street use*, but if they don't work out on the street I'll be going back to S02's. For my purposes (which are admitedly a bit odd) the S02's are actually a very good compromise.
I heard that an Isuzu I-Mark is a competitive SM2 car. What you think?

[QUOTE=RED MX5,Apr 3 2008, 11:52 AM] Hahaha, I got my car into a genuine four wheel drift for the first time Sunday.
The drift was promptly followed by a full 360.

LOL, I'm not sure I was trying to make a point.

However, I did not realize how hard it would be for others to get a sense of the forces involved; SO, I've added a TrackVision virtual dashboard to the video now, and you can see the forces as measured by my data logger. Same link as before, but I'll repeat it here so you don't have to go back to the previous page to get to it.

Please right-click and save-as... (under 1 Meg)

Looks to me like the lateral forces far exceed the longitudinal forces.
Well...... ok then... serious mode = off

For those who are interested, here's a course map showing the pylons.

How Porsche-like - five, count 'em, five pivot cones.
