I drove both;for that kind of money I was expecting more ftom the Boxster S.
The car I was in had also the full leather option, but still the dashboard look(IMO)out of place.
By the way ,especially for the price,I dont think they can be compared.
One is more of a GT ,the S2000 more sport car.

s2k spain,
Thanks for the report. Your findings are very similar to others that approached both cars objectively. We've all read the numerous close calls and challenge of driving the s2k, and clearly the boxster s is reportedly more forgiving. A Porsche is welcome in my garage any time.

Hey S2KRob, we all know those Best Motoring guys (most of them) can't drive all that well anyways, and they certainly aren't good drag racers (my opinion, but I've seen plenty of their tapes to form it). The Boxster should be easier to launch (more low end torque, more traction) than the S2K, but in terms of absolute acceleration, R&T's comparo test showed the Boxster only about a car length ahead at teh 1/4 mile mark with a negligible diference in trap speed. Takes a more skilled driver to get that from the S2K, but it fits the power and weight numbers (Boxster S weighs about 150-200 lbs more, but puts 10-12 more hp to the wheels).
I tend to agree that the Boxster S has a better level of fit and finish (the earlier models didn't), is a better touring car and has more accessible performance. But the S2K is nearly a match for it in any performance term, provided the driver meets a certain minimum standard of skill (kind of sounds like old 911s, doesn't it?). I do believe most of us on this board would probably be faster in a Boxster S under most circumstances.
Whether or not the advantages are worth $30k is a personal decision for the buyer, and not for me to judge.

To put it in perspective, the performance difference is marginal but the price difference allows you to almost have TWO S2000s for one fully loaded Boxster S. The Boxster S is a great car but it SHOULD be for that money.
Any good manufacturer can make a great car for lots of money, it takes a GREAT manufacturer to make a GREAT car for a moderate amount of money.

Right on the nose Bieg! If you want to compare the most bang for the buck, Honda has set a benchmark that is so far up there, I doubt any manufacturer even wants to try and jump that high in that price range.
