first oil change...
The owners manual says 7,500 miles or 3,750 under severe conditions. I know that I read the manula when I got the car, I am asking if thats a good idea or not. It sounds to me that its not a good idea. I have always been told to change oil before 3,000 miles and this is the first time I have ben told to wait longer. I did not ask what the owners manual says. I asked for your opinion. So please don't tell me something I allready know.
Just to elaborate on what RR did, he didn't simply change the oil at 1,000 miles and replace will regular petroleum-based oil because he full well knows everything listed in the owner's manual about the "special" factory fill oil and how it should be left in the engine for approximately 7,500 miles (normal conditions) for proper engine break-in. He simply has analyzed the components of the factory fill oil and found out that the oil is rich in an additive known as moly. He also knows that as a new engine breaks in, it tends to leave tiny metal shavings which are not that good for the engine. So he has put 2 + 2 together an enjoys the best of both worlds by keeping his oil clean and not changing the composition of the oil the factory recommends for engine break-in since he simply adds the additive moly to his preferred petroleum oil when performing his oil change.
