I'll be doing my first change this weekend just shy of 5k mi. Timing is just right. Had it just over 4 months. Definitely not severe conditions, mostly weekday interstate and weekend twisties. But mainly because it's time for a long winter's nap.
OT Had one last fun day, newly paved mall lot, cold wet. Practiced a little handling. Now time to tuck in with the cover Santa's bringing.

Any thoughts? - I have posted tons on this - you are a pretty low on the oil abuser scale, and M1 has a good TBN - the whole point of my typing all that was to allow you to make your own choices. But I would say your regimen is sound, although you might want to do a yearly UOA to check for wear.

I have been a one to change oil every 2500 miles. I have found that over the years the engine is much cleaner internaly and have less problems down the road mechanically. But as we all know each vehicle is unique and has to be treated on its personality.

Have a great Holiday. Peace and safe

I'm going to have a UOA like RR suggested. I believe this to be prudent. But I have an analogy for some.

For those that have had children: Remember your first born? You ever-so-gently cradled its head and spoke softly to him/her? Remember attending to its every whimper?(no? Bad Dad/Mom! lol) Remember the second one? Not quite the same white glove treatment, right?

We purchased this car for a number of reasons. Some bought it because it's a convertible. Some because it's a sportscar. Some bought it because it's a Honda. This is my first import(unless you count the '62 VW panel van, diesel Rabbit, and 2 street bikes). I finally looked at imports because of the reliability of the vehicles that other family members had experienced. Point being, despite some of the first models suffering from oil starvation, I believe I have a reliable automobile. I use syn oil and feel very comfortable going longer than 2500. 3500, or even 5000 miles between changes. Remember the manual suggests 7500 miles on dino oil! Use good oil and filters, follow the book and you'll be fine.

On the other hand, I really wish I had had someone tell me about changing out the diff fluid long before the manual says to at 30k. I did mine at 30,500 and it had some serious amount of fur on the sucka! Well, at least I thought so... never have done it myself so I have nothing to compare it to, but the particles were raised above the bolt!

Good luck with your decision and subsequent fortune! I've really only typed so much because I'm putting off going to the stores this morning.

Interesting subject. You would think that auto manufacturers would have researcehed this???? My Porshe Boxster S had a recommended change interval of 15,000 miles (it came with Mobil 1). Why would they recommend that if it weren't OK (aside from the conspiracy theory...that they want it to damaged the engine so they can repair it)?
