Hi:
I left my oil in until 7500 miles due to the memo Woodwork put out. It says, "The factory-fill oil has special additives, so it should be left in the engine until the first oil change: 7,500 miles, under "normal conditions".
I then made sure I drove under normal conditions. Which, includes stop & go traffic ASAIK, Honda606. I mainly just made sure I didn't go short distances.
Its amazing how worked up people can get over this sort of thing. For my money, I'm listening to the people (Well person) who talks to the guys who designed the engine.

The severe schedule says (roughly) "Follow this schedule if you mainly drive under these conditions: stop and go, dusty, short distances (less than 5 miles), etc. If you only occasionally drive under these conditions, follow the normal schedule." I guess based on my assessment, I fall under the occasional bucket.
Of course, I also don't think of paved public streets as being unusually dusty. If I drive around the Mojave all the time, I would consider that dusty.
I used to think of oil changes as being cheap insurance... until I started thinking that perhaps I'm paying too much for that insurance.
