Basic tools for you blower kit and a spare tire and jack .. Everything else I buy on the way .. Even tools you can buy if you forgot something ..
I did 3000 miles from ny to fla and back through the dragon to ny.. I had to change my fuel pump in the parking lot in Florida of my hotel .. Thank god I had my tools .. But also had to but soldering gun and other tools there also .. Just be prepared ..
I'm boosted on the new kW kit also

Don't worry about that short drive.
I'm 60 and my wife and I have drives that lasted 21 days and over 7200 miles in our '06 S. We love driving with the top down and it stays down even when the temps get down to 7*F.
Were going to Vagas on the first for some races. We'll be in our Jeep this trip(the S makes for a lousy off road vehicle)
.
If you have time go take this drive

And my photobucket is open to all so you can see some of the other places we have gone.

Thanks for the tips, and we should definitely get a Sacramento meet together!! I would love to meet some of the fellow enthusiasts.
Wow, I really didn't imagine getting so many responses! Thank you for all the great advice, checklists, and the ideas of what roads to take! I'm super excited for the trip and I'll definitely post pictures afterwards.
Compared to some of the trips you guys have taken, it really does seem like an easy one day-er! haha.
Thanks again, guys!

I've done three two-week road trips in an S2000, each over 4000 miles.
- Use earplugs. The S2000 is loud, even with the top up, and hour upon hour of it can cause damage, or at least fatigue.
- Don't go for more than three hours without spending some time outside the car.
- Use a hat and sunscreen. In particular a hat that can cover your neck. (Assuming you have the top down.)
- Have a small toolkit. Pliers, cutters, zipties, wrenches, screwdriver, gloves, factory jack, rags. Make sure the spare is at the proper pressure.
- Glass cleaner to remove any bug guts from the windshield.
- I've brought, but never used, an extra quart of oil. Make sure oil, coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid and windshield wiper fluid are topped up.
- I enjoyed having an audio book to help keep me alert. LOTR trilogy, for example.
We just did this on Tuesday(March 1) and hwy 155 was so much fun, like I said we like to keep off the freeways as much as possible.

I made a 3000 mile trip in my '04 S2000 about 7 months after purchasing it. Did a loop from KC down I-44/40 to Amarillo/Petrified Forrest/Grand Canyon to Las Vegas for 2 days for Red Bull Air Races. Came back up through Utah and I-70 through Colorado back to Kansas City. I did the entire trip in about 6 days, so about 3000 miles in 4 days, including extended stops at the Petrified Forrest and Grand Canyon.
I didn't realize it at the time, but the car was in need of an alignment, so get that checked before you go. A proper alignment should also help fuel MPG if something isn't set right. HIGHLY recomend the noise cancelling headphones/earbuds. I would have had a much more difficult time on the trip without these. My exhaust (on the car when purchased) droned significantly, but not as bad above 70 mph. Bring a tool kit, that's the best way of assuring you won't need it, haha. Pre-pack everything you think you want to take because the trunk is TINY. I went solo on my trip and brought just a backpack, camera bag and tools and the trunk was full. Granted it also had a small sub and amp in the jack storage area. I relocated the jack and tools to the area where the spare tire is since you'd be using them both at the same time generally anyway. If I'd have brought the GF, we'd have to have just an overnight bag for luggage. Longest single day was about 13 hrs from Grand Junction Colorado to Kansas City and I definitely didn't want to be in the car by the end of the trip. That said, it was a FANTASTIC car for touring the Southwest. Petrified Forrest and the Grand Cayon with the top down were incredible. I did about half of the highway miles with the top up due to weather and wind fatigue.
What I didn't bring, but wish I would have...
-Pre-loaded music and audiobooks onto the phone. I streamed Pandora for a majority of the trip, but when the cell service went dead, so did the tunes.
-Smaller tool kit for just what I'd actually need. The full size plastic tool box kits take up a lot of room in the limited trunk space.
-Less "stuff" in general. Most people can get by with less stuff for vacationing, but being prepared for everything takes room.

My wife and I spent two weeks and 6500 miles in my S2000 a few years back. Drove from NY and visited Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands NP, Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Glacier NP, and Theodore Roosevelt NP. We took 3 duffle bags worth of clothes, a quart of oil, a roll of paper towel, glass cleaner, and the factory jack/tools and spare. It all fit in the trunk.
Make sure the car is good to go, pack light, enjoy the trip!
