Fixed Rear Window
I took my car in to a guy with a small car upholstery shop. He said the Honda dealer does not sell a separate window piece so anything that could be purchased was likely an aftermarket type. He then expressed concern that such a top may not fit well or be an exact match for the car. I saw that someone had put one in themselves. Who all has had the whole back window piece (not just the plastic) put in and what supplier did you use to get the piece?
Hey guys im a new s2k owner and the car I bought has the cracked rear plastic window as well as passenger side mirror glass missing, and the tow hook cover from the bumper. I used all of these to lower the price and knew what I was getting into when I bought the car.
That said , I see a few different approaches to this problem. This is the the order in which I am going to try:
1. Take it to dealership, be nice, but persistent about how honda changed it because they realized it was a faulty design. However Im not going to mention this at first. In the beggining im just going to say that it broke from normal usage, which it did.
2. If that doesnt work im going to to take it to another dealer, until the next dealer is too far away, or it becomes aparent to me that they are communicating.
3. Im going to take it to an upholtery place and see what they have to say and how the quote would change if i could provide the oem part for them. Ofcourse I will go to more than one shop.
4. I will buy the OEM part and do it myself, from what I have read, most of it is zippered but the bottom is riveted and will require removal of seats, and asome panels.
5. Worst case scenario I will make my own replacement window, and put it in myself. My plan for this is to cut out the current one but leave the outside rubber edge. Then I will have to sew in the new one and seal it with the best type of silicon/rubberish sealant that I can find. The new peice will be on the inside.
I have found the OEM peice for $170ish and if the dealer wont do it for free, I will try to see if a shop can do it for under $400 including my cost for oem plastic. If this is not possible I will do it myself. Because for anything over $400 i dont think its worth it because apparently you can by the whole assembly for $700 for OEM and $370 ish for non oem but same material from Cabrio World.
I would like to know if someone has been able to get this done by honda for free after expiration of original 36/36 warranty

the "Honda" dealership being nice and friendly to you and replacing your window out of warranty......keep dreaming
Well my experiances don't pertain to the window but other small items which my extended warrnaty doesn't cover such as the straps on the top not working. They want to charge you for the full inspection even if you know what the problem is. Ridiculous, thats whyI do the lil things myself and the big things go to the dealer under the warranty.
Remember this is a Honda not an Acura.
Honda service =
BTW this is the last honda car I will ever buy unless they make the s3000 ACURA or something. Just very dissapointed with HONDA. Maybe one good dealership out of 5 in my area.

well you cant really blame honda, and i guess dealerships are sort of like franchises, where the owners are not necesarily emplyees of honda. I guess im just hoping ill find some nice dealership.
btw, the ones i called so far, all said that even though the car was out of warranty they would still have to look at it to see if its somthing they could do, and they all said that they would not charge anything to look at it.

they can't charge you to see a broken window. Its obviously broken and they can't pull your leg or bs you on anything which is so obvious. My experiance is they sound nice on the phone but once ya get there...maybe your area is diff.
Well let us know how it goes
