Fixing the 1-2 shift (where to go?)
When I bought my car last week from Carmax they gave me a 30 day warranty. Under it, I can get the fix (or as I read it doesn't always fix it but it does help) for the grinding issue that happens when you shift at over 6K RPM in first.
My question is should I go through them (Carmax) or try to contact a Honda service center and see if I can get it fixed through them. More importantly, if I do go through Honda, how much could they charge for that? I have talked to the service techs at Carmax and they do know about this issue, so it

honda will charge a lot. they have to pull the tranny out and replace the syncros; this involves more than a simple swapping of parts. to do the job right, everything must be put back to tight tolerances. I'd guess $2000.
Now, are you shifting when the tranny is WARM or are you trying redline shifts soon after you start? warming up helps most 1-2 grinds. Try some GM synchromesh FRICTION MODIFIED fluid, too. The FRICTION MODIFIED is crucial, do not put regular syncromesh in.
Most dealers don't stock it and many will argue with you about its existence. Hardtopguy.com sells it.
