The real issue for those cars is weight, not power.
Actually, the real issue IMO is reliability. Especially, if your out of warranty...Alot of $$$ to maintain.

Apples and oranges...

"Hmm, never experienced it. I love both makes of cars. Although I prefer Audi's more than VW's." Not sure what that means?

The Audi quality is there, much quieter, outstanding fit and finish, material quality and paint. VW, particularly the Brazil and Mexico stuff blows chunks. Both have had chronic electrical problems and a weird slow motion attitude about fixing them.

My honda (s2k/crv) paint is much lower in quality, hardly any sound insulation, cheap materials, fit and finish is weak (but still much better than US), but I'm paying 20-30 less, too. From a performance standpoint, the Audi/VW weight is the killer. The power is easy to get, but the weight sucks. Audi is a great tourer, and the AWD is perfect for those snow/ice climates, but until the S/R8, not sporty...

I never knew there was a problem with Vdubs, I personally never had any issue with them, and we had a meet not to long ago with a Honda forum I am on and the local Vdub forum joined us to make it even larger of a car show.

Word. Those cars are just heavy and not exactly made for a driver who enjoys the pure sport of driving.

Personally, I think anyone who gets married to a single brand isnt a real car guy. I mean, there are so many great cars out there, why be monogomous??? You cant get VD from driving a bunch of cars.

I had a VW GTI 337 before my S2000 and it was a much better all around car than the S2000. However, I wanted to try out a pure, sporty, raw roadster so here I am. I had a Mustang Cobra set up for drag racing before the GTI. Each car has its strengths and weaknesses, but I enjoyed them all.

Everyone here who is saying "hondas are better so Ill only buy hondas" blow my mind. There are fantastic cars out there from every make. While you guys are limiting yourselves to one make, Ill be playing the field

My other ride is a 2004 VW Touareg. It's an awesome truck, but compared to every Honda I've ever owned, it is a POS from a reliability standpoint. Stuff breaks and wears out prematurely, and dealer service is very expensive. I plan to trade it for a new Subaru Outback XT this spring.

I haunt the Touareg forum at VW Vortex, and these dyed-in-the-wool V Dubbers are very defensive about their cars. There's a lot of bitching by some (including me) about reliability and the stupid things things that go wrong with these trucks, and there's always someone who gets down on you for being negative! It's almost like a religion! They consider it a "labor of love" to spend the money and deal with the frustration of keeping these damn things running. Not me...I'm done with VW.

Well said. I never understood that mentality myself.
