Fluorescent lights
I need additional light in the garage to work on my S car at night and was thinking about hanging fluorescent lights. The garage is finished with drywall so I'd like it to be a neat job, and if possible, I'd like to do it myself. There's a power source above the garage door opener but there's only 1 free outlet.
How many fixtures do you think I'd need for a standard 2-car garage? Do you know of any good DIY procedures for hooking up these lights?

I would check local regional / city building code. They have requirements for new construction here in N. Florida that there has to be an outlet like every 7-10 linear feet on a wall (corner's dont count). For a standard 2 car garage you should put 2 on each wall (sides and head wall) spaced evenly. I would first determine the load on the current circuit, though, as you REALLY do not want to overload it. If it is ammenable, you should just drop in another 20A breaker and run new wiring from there. The PITA is going to be that you have already drywalled. usually wiring goes in before drywall, and the studs are drilled to accomodate the wires. No sweat if its too late, just get som floor conduit to attach to the baseboards and external mount boxes.
PM me if you need details (I am a contractor) and JUST did this 4 weeks ago on my own house
