HONDA'S MODERN DAY MARVEL
By Brian Mobrin, Associated Press
DETROIT, MI, December 1, 2002 - The S2000, a hand-assembled "racecar for the street" roadster is manufactured by the Honda Motor Company of Japan. It attracts a very special owner, indeed one that expects an exceptional blend of jaw-dropping yet solid and controlled performance, beauty and venerable Honda reliability. It is an extraordinary vehicle that was designed from a clean slate to stun the automotive world in model year 2000 and celebrate Honda's 50th anniversary in motorsports. There simply has never been a car like it, and Honda seems proud of this fact, engineering a car with more horsepower per liter of displacement than any other naturally aspirated production car the world has ever known. Drive one, and no more glorious reviews or exhuberant descriptions become necessary- the drive says it all. As a Porsche enthusiast for many years, I had remained sceptical of all the excited claims and boasting about this supposed "supercar and Porsche killer." After American Honda sent me to a nearby dealership for a VIP road test drive and track test, I now have one of these prized vehicles in my permanent collection- that's right, in my own garage. Porsche may have a bloodline, but I'm afraid to say this miracle just started its own genetic code, and all in such a short time on earth. Does anything more need to be written about this rising sun wonder?
Now that the car is in its fourth model year, a fiercely loyal, fanatic and growing number of buyers have experienced the fun and crazy nature of the S2000. Honda might as well bring its famous "the car that sells itself" 1980's corporate advertising slogan back, if just for this model alone. It's simply a blast to drive with its F1-like handling, performance precision of a fine swiss watch, and terrific good looks. This Honda's an all around winner, and no surprise that S2000 owners (myself now included in the ranks) are all sure to realize they are driving a modern day classic and sure-to-be collectors' item when the limited production run, rumored to end next year, finally sees its last day. Porsche who?

Oh...and it was funny as I got into the first few glorious sentences, that I was thinking, "Damn, this guy must *own* an S2K"...and sure enough, he later indicated was so impressed with its characteristics that he purchased one for himself.
....they are driving a modern day classic and sure-to-be collectors' item when the limited production run, rumored to end next year, finally sees its last day.
