Found out that the rear lights are practically useless in fog

I am of the opinion that it is of real value to anyone. It is not my ideal situation to get caught in a thunder storm in my S2000, but it will (has already) happened. I have a completely different fear factory being in a small, light, RWD car with HiPerf tires on 270 in a rain storm with wackos blasting around me -- $hit they can't see me, or anything for that matter, in the daylight.

Gonna get sidetracked for one second -- when I had my last bike, 00 HD, I was merging from the left of two lanes merging to the left into the "local" lanes (prior to getting onto 270) -- I always road with my hi-beam on when riding the Beltway. This woman in a minivan full of kids looked in her left (driver side) rear view mirror two times -- looked right at me (at least I thought so). Then decided to come on over with no where for me to go -- I lift my right leg off the peg and kicked the $hit out of the side (couple nice "bangs" in the side of her van -- imagine her explaining this one to her husband?) until she "realized" I was there with all the kids looking at me with the look of death on my face kicking the piss out of Mom's van -- I was heading onto the shoulder at this point. My friend was following behind and couldn't do anything... She got over and gave me the "shrug" of disbelief -- I had one of my favorite salutes (double with my friend) for her -- imagine her having to explain that to the kids!

Anyway, that can't see cars any better -- especially small roadsters with REAL bright HIDs -- I would love the rear fog just for "those occasions..."

My two cents.

Surprisingly, it can get pretty misty/foggy, even in So. CA. I realize that a lot of people may never have this problem; however, I really wanted to alert people to the fact that they should not have blind faith in the ability of their rear lights to provide satisfactory illumination under foggy, misty, or even rainy conditions. As I said, most people would only realize how poor their rear lights performed if they happened to follow behind another S2K.

I'm interested in buying the rear fog lamp as well, while I thought someone was going to check out the details from Honda UK in regards to this. I'm in Australia though, I should've just got it in Japan before I bought the car ... Damn I never know there is an optional rear fog lamp at my time of purchase.

That's not fog, that's smoke from my tires....or maybe something else.

I had to drive today through some thick foggy conditions and the headlights seems to make it harder to see. I guess those HIDs are toooo bright....felt like I had my high-beams on....

If you turn you headlights off in fog is may improve your visibility but reduce your visibility to others.

Surprised to hear you could do this and suvive Mike. On my bike I found if I tried to hit/kick anything (even mildly) that it was only myself I risked doing any damage to.

The 'equal and opposite reaction' from the kick is enough to push the bike sideways and threaten to spit you off well before any panel damage occurs.

2kturkey --

I have been riding bikes for quite a few years -- this method I would prefer to avoid and definitely do NOT endorse. However, I have also learned that in time of deperation, you do what you have to in order to survive...

This was one of those times -- I did what I had to do (get her attention) and I survived.

All is good -- again, not my choice method...
