I'm afraid it's not a solid piece. Here is a picture of the grill by itself:

Here is the sort of device that Honda uses to attach the grill to the bumper:

Unless someone has messed with the grill and have broken some of those plastic protrusions that the little metal flat retainer goes over or unless some of the retainers have been lost and never replaced, that grill is going nowhere. The vast majority of S2000 owners, both AP1 and AP2, need never give this subject a second thought. I've swapped from AP1 to Ap2 bumpers, even lost a couple of those retainers and my grill hasn't even given a sniff of a sign of falling out. Plus, I've hung lights from that grill, drilled holes through it, pushed on it and generally put quite a bit of stress on it. A "lot" of S2000's"? I think not. Don't let a few who have screwed up their grills, spread paranoia throughout the community. If you or any previous owner has never touched the grill, don't sweat it.

I have an 06, my top tabs on the bumper are gone, and my grille has always been loose, until yesterday. The bottom flange of the bumper, that the grill sets on, has (2) small holes in it. I drilled (2) holes in the grille that line up with the holes in the bumper, popped in a couple of small black retainers, and my grille now secure.

05. My grille is loose too.

I'm going to look into this whole speed nuts issue, and see if I can't fix it. It looks ghettoterrible all pushed in.

Had the same problem with my grille (MY06). I ended up using a strong 2 part glue and it has been holding ever since. All of my little prongs broke off except 1 so I used that one to line it up when I glued it.
