Default Front tag butchery

I was showing off the new car last night, and noticed the front tag bracket was loose, taking off the plate, there are two machine screws (plus a third underneath) trying to grip holes punched in the bumper cover and not doing a good job of it. They were about 1/2" above some "bumps" in the bumper cover. Looking around this site I read of "plugs", so just now I went out to the garage and checked again; those "bumps' are indeed "plugs" and, removing those, the threaded holes are within. The dealer must not have known and merely stabbed through the bumper cover. AAAARRRRGGGHHH!

Well, not sure if I want to run without a front plate ( in seven years I got stopped once in the Miata, paying up preferrable to reinstaling the plate). If i do I have two nasty holes. I guess I could get a second set of "plugs". Or, I may keep the plate installed, color-matching the bracket to the car or something.

Yuk!

Wait, so the dealer drilled extra holes in your front bumper to mount the license?!? I would take it back to them, but I doubt they would do anything about it. Hope everything works out for you

Oh dear, if the dealer drilled an extra set of holes into a new 2007, they need to fix it. I would definitely suggest taking it back to them; hold your ground, they need to repair it. Make the point to them that any idiot would have known not to drill a hole in the front of the car.

Take it back. That is absolutely NOT acceptable.

i agree, this is "car abuse", but short of a real-estate contract showing I'm moving from MD to NC where I would not NEED a tag, the dealer might says "what's the harm"?

This is in the vicinity of the Maryland state capital, i won't (yet) put a finer point on it than that.

At least they didn't perforate the hood or doors...
