My brother is a mechanical and chemical engineer and we've both been using
Techron for years. I use it about 4x/year and have done so on my last four cars.
It is NOT nearly as harsh as the others and my former mechanic (left behind in Vermont)
runs a race team and said Chevron's product is considered by most to be the best.
Three more for Techron. You shouldn't really need to use it more
than 3-4/year, if that.

Chevron Techron is the only way to go. Use it just prior to each oil change.

The only way to go? Okay.....I ish my world could be so black & white.

I agree that one should do it prior to an oil change, except in the case of SI-2, which is formulated to be used on a continuous basis, as an adjunct to the additives already in the fuel.

And BTW, you all are aware that the many oil companies have lowered the amount of quality detergent additives ? Chevron has an ad whjere they claim that before cars are certified in the EPA testing, they get a fillup of gas with Techron. That should indicate that the mfr's know there are differecnes. California has considered legislation to set a minimum level, but I don't think it went anywhere, as it would be hard to set levels, the technology changes a lot, and they would need infrastructure to monitor the program. California has bigger fish to fry.

Wow. Those guys always seem to have the details on those hydrocarbon products!

I've used Redline in my bikes before. Techron in everything... I guess I'll stay away from the Redline injector cleaner from now on...

It sounds like good avdvice to *quickly use* whatever additives you put in the tank, if any, and not let is sit around in the tank for weeks. And definitely don't ad more then the recommended amounts...

I just recently sent a set of injectors from a 243,000 mile Toyota engine off to be cleaned and flow tested. They didn't really need it.

I buy any major brand gas and use RedLine fuel system cleaner about once a year, although I've only had this engine about 5,000 miles.

It's possible the injectors were cleaned/rebuilt before I purchased the engine, although judging by how shoddily the thing was built I'd be surprised if they bothered to take the time.
