I suspect most newer cars have the fuel light designed to come on when there's a safe 50 miles left in the tank.

When the light in my Miata comes on, I have about 2.1 gallons left which equal easily 50-60 miles.

In my Wrangler, the low fuel light comes on when I have 4.5 gallons remaining. . . which is about 50-60 miles (yeah, the Jeep get's sucky milage).

And based on what I'm hearing here, once you're out of bars theres also about 50-60 miles left, easily.

If you really want to find out, fill up a 5 gal. gas jug and go driving. Mark when the bars run out then then note when the car runs out of gas. Fill up with the spare gas jug and get to the nearest gas station.

Funny this thread should appear today as I experienced the very same thing with my new 05. This was my FIRST fill up with the new baby and I was really surprised that the bars dropped so quickly from the 4th bar.

This is my first Honda and I thought for sure that I'd be hoofing it to the gas station when I saw the little gas pump symbol come on but after filling up I computed that I had about 2 to 2 1/2 gals remaining in the tank.

I filled up with 10.7 gals of 93 octane Gulf.
