future of S2000
A dealer told me that the S2000 will be one-generation only as a commemorative to Honda. It will be replaced by a cheaper mass-produced convertible to fill in the gaps of the Prelude and S2000 (taking potshots against the Miata and MR2Spyder?)
I believe Honda knows they have a winner in the S2000 and will not cease production as long as sales remain strong (i.e. the car is financially viable). In fact, I believe they'd continue to make it even if it were losing a little money, since it's become so important to their brand identity. The S2000 is to Honda as the NSX is to Acura, and they've continued to make the NSX even though they sell only a handful each year these days.
Assuming that's the case, then, you can expect minor (evolutionary, not revolutionary) upgrades from time to time, much as the NSX has experienced. The only scenario in which I see them considering significant redesigns is one in which the competition (principally the Japanese since Honda doesn't usually respond to the Euro cars) trumps the S2000 with a faster, cheaper convertible. That's unlikely to happen in the next few years (we've seen their concepts), so I'd expect the S2000 will be around in much the same form for quite a while.

Oh S2K-Drivers!
don't ask for the future, drive now and have fun. We shouldn't take care about POSSIBLE future changes, should we
?
maybe the will improve the power of the s2k or upgrade the vtec, but who cares? Is it better to drive boring cars til 2003 or 2004 or drive now, and breath fresh air!
Have a nice road,
Cosimino

I don't know as to the integrity of dealers, because when I called them, they said 2002 may be the last year (trying to talk me into buying one sooner), and I have proof that production for 2003 has been confirmed.

Twohoos has a point! As long as the car is making money for Honda we will continue to see the production of the S2000. However, the roadster market is hot once again and now everyone is coming out with new and improved roadsters. I hate to say it, but the S2000 is going to have some pretty stiff competition from the likes of Nissan and BMW with the new Z and Z3 coming later this year. Once that competition arrives Honda will have to make a big decision, stop production or improve performance to stay competitive.
