Very interesting thread!

The same thing just happened to me today on my '00 Acura TL. The CEL came on and the first thing I did was check the gas cap - well actually the first thing I did was pull over to a complete stop.

The gas cap was finger loose - no resistance turning it at all.

Is the filler pipe thread a known issue for Honda or just on the S2000?

You may want to post in the TL boards and see if this is anything specific with the TLs. I have owned many Hondas and the S2K is the first one that has this issue, for me.

Autozone has OB II scanner and will reset your CEL for free. Had the same problem with 02 gas cap loosening and after second time of CEL coming on went to neighborhood Autozone for free CEL reset.

Our 2001 CRV never had a problem (or any for that matter) around this.

The problem doesn't show up on a large percentage of the units. Doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

Recently while at the beach on vacation my CEL came on. I was scared to death. I had read about the gas cap deal in the manual, but was for sure that I had tightened it all the way. Plus I had burned up a 1/2 tank since my last refill. I was so sure it wasn't my cap, I didn't even check it. I called the local Honda dealer (Myrtyle Beach), and made an appointment. They plugged in, and after asking how to open the gas door, asked me to tighten the cap. It was obviously loose. I felt stupid for not even checking, but they reset my CEL and there was no charge. And I don't even have a warranty. First and only time this has happened (hopefully last).
