Default Gearbox

I have had my S2K for 6 weeks and have put 5500 miles on it. I love the car BUT it seems a bit difficult to go from 5th gear to 6th with relation to the other changes. Is this normal for the car? The gearbox has the tendency to go from 5th to 4th. I have to "concentrate" and push "over" a bit for 6th. Please advise. Thanks.

My gearbox does the same thing, so if that is a problem, then I'm in the same boat with you.

5500 mi in 6 weeks???? you've got to have one heck of a commute, or you've been driving across the country and back!

It makes me feel a little better to hear that someone else has gone 5-4 when intending to shift 5-6. I have only done it a few times, but it is still quite humiliating. You [and I, for that matter] need to concentrate, and execute the shift slowly and deliberately, making sure to pull straight back, since the spring action makes the lever naturally fall into the 4th gear position. It definitely is a driver error issue, but quite frankly, it requires considerably more driver skill to manipulate a 6 speed than a 5 speed. We will both get there, but we need to be careful and practice, practice, practice.

When shifting from 5-6 turn your hand upside down so that your thumb is pointing downward and pull the shifter backward. No more mis-shifts. Do the same for 6-5.

I have noticed this also. The feel from 5th to 6th is different and the pull back angle is different .

Thanks for the feedback. I feel better about those "few" times I have gone from 5-4 instead of 5-6. I will try the "hand upside down" technique.

Yeah, I will also try the 'hand upside down' approach. All the time, I thought the problem was that I had my head up my butt; now I found out that I merely had my hand rotated improperly.
